1981 Mercedes 300 SD TURBOCHARGED DIESEL CALIFORNIA CARIN STORAGE FOR YEARS5 CYLINDER TURBO DIESEL
ORIGINAL MSRP $33. 00or about $70. 00 in 2013 dollars Up for bid is a 1981 MERCEDES 300SD that we are posting for a friend. This automobile has been in a climate controlled warehouse for years and has been rarely used as the owner is no longer driving it so it needs to be liquidated and is being offered for sale at a very low reserve. It runs and drives well but will need some cosmetic restoration to be perfect. This is a very solid example and the first year of the classic  W 126 body. These 300 SD are well-known to get around 30 miles per gallon during freeway driving due to its highly efficent  power plant. The 5 cylinder Turbo fires up right up and runs strong with no visible leaks. The engine has good power with no noticeable knocks or sounds. The tranny shifts strong in every gear . The rear end does have a howl while slowing down but seems to function properly otherwise.
This is being POSTED FOR A FRIEND  who does not use Ebay. I will describe it as I see it to the best of my ability.  
The body is very straight with no major previous damage. The car has not been used for several years however it is currently registered in the state of California into 2014. This car could use a little detail work on the interior and trunk but otherwise a very solid example. The car has updated 16 inch Mercedes Alloys and 225 50 ZR 16 Michelin Pilots that are showing signs of age from lack of use with all of the side walls cracking. It will need some tires in the near future. The drivers rear window is in/op but all other windows seem to go up and down with out any issues.
The Turbocharger  sits on the right side of the motor and the air cleaner is mounted directly above it. the injectors are on the other side of the engine and the fuel is delivered to them through brass tubing. These are very heavy duty engines that are known for there durability. This car was sold new in California but was upgraded with the European H4 headlights.
