1968 Chevrolet Chevelle 300 – COPO Tribute

Purists may balk. but here at Blue Marlin Motors USA we’re fans of all cars. We proudly offer for sale today this 1968 Chevelle 300 that has been made into a COPO tribute car.

The Central Office Production Order program was a way for GM dealers to order vehicles with larger engines or other performance options for special customers. Perhaps the most notable user of this program was Don Yenko and his line of S/C Camaros. Chevelles. and Novas. Typically. COPO cars started life out as very base model versions of whatever car was ordered.

That is the spirit and theme behind this car. Instead of a basic 327. for instance. under the hood of this car is a 1980 454 block that has been bored to 461 cubic inches. The 427 badges are a nod to the tribute idea. since many COPO cars were ordered with 427s. This 454 is bad to the bone. It has TRW flat top pistons. 1970-casting high performance heads. big valves. a Comp cam. 1. 7 roller rockers. and a whole host of other performance upgrades. It’s mated to a 4 speed manual. and out back is a bulletproof GM 12 bolt positraction rear end with 4. 11 gears.  

Looking at it. though. you would never know. The bright red paintwork shines in the sun. The steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps are unassuming and subtle. This looks like your grandmother’s Sunday church car. but turn the key and dad’s Friday night drag racing special comes to life! The engine noise provided by both the headers and Comp cam can’t help but reveal this car’s true intentions: to go fast. There are wide drag radial tires on the rear. and BF Goodrich Radial T/As in the front. so you’re sure to have traction as you blast down the strip.  

The inside also keeps the bare-bones theme alive and well. The black bench seat. Hurst floor shifter. and steering column mounted tachometer really bring the theme together. With just over 30. 00 original documented miles. this Chevelle will keep you smiling and keep the tires burning for many years to come.
