Chevrolet's radically different 1947 Advanced Design light-duty trucks represented a sea change in pickup design and appearance. The nation was entering the exciting Post World War II era and after four long years of war the American people. especially the veterans. were looking forward to new opportunities in the world's greatest country. There was no better way to put the past behind and look to the future than with new lines of America's favorite form of transportation - cars and light trucks. Chevrolet had an advantage over many car manufacturers after the war because of the high demand for pickup trucks. People wanted them. and Chevrolet made them. Chevrolet first introduced its Advanced Design line of pickups in 1947.

These trucks were a product of study and research. which included interviews with commercial and private pickup truck owners. Chevrolet used the interviews to learn what people wanted in a pickup truck. The answers they received revealed the number one concern with trucks was a larger. roomier cab with more comfortable seats and better vision. The cab of the Advanced Design pickups was eight inches wider and seven inches longer. By pickup standards increases of this magnitude only happen once in a lifetime. The cab's new size allowed the engineers to fit in with a true three-man seat which was also fully adjustable front and rear on an inclined plane to provide maximum driver vision. The additional cab width and length caused the new pickups to look much bigger than previously. A new larger windshield and bigger side and rear window glass and optional rear-quarter windows vastly improved safety and driveability. Higher and wider cab doors made entry and exit easier. Another new feature which further contributed to driver comfort and safety was a fresh-air heater/defroster system which brought fresh outside air into the cab and forced used air out through vents at the rear of the cab. Chevrolet engineers designed the new cab's construction to be entirely welded. as opposed to partly bolted together as in the past. Consequently the new cab was much stronger and featured a three-point type of suspension. which contributed to a softer ride.

Chevrolet engineers included three pickup truck types in the new Advanced Design Series in three-sizes. half-. 3/4- and one-tons (models 3100. 3600. and 3800 respectively) with cargo boxes 78 inches. 87 inches and 108 inches long. All three boxes were 50 inches wide. 16 1/4 inches high on the sides and 14 inches high in the ends. Wheelbases were 116. 125 1/4 and 137 inches. For each model the cargo box was shifted forward for better distribution of the load in relation to the rear axle and for better support by the frame rails. All pickups continued to be built with wooden cargo floors covered with steel skid strips.

Advanced Design pickups continued through 1953 with only minor engineering and styling upgrades. The year 1950 was a sales record-breaker for Chevrolet trucks. Pickup trucks became very popular as a second family vehicle. Having a car for family outings and a truck for hauling heavy loads proved to be very convenient. The 1950 Chevrolet pickup had changed very little from the previous year's design. but demand for the truck was high. One change. though. was use of a power-jet GM Model B downdraft carburetor. The carburetor featured an improved choke mechanism. a discharge nozzle centered for easy reach on cold winter mornings. and a concentric fuel bowl. A Deluxe Cab was also available and had a wood-floor construction and bright molding around the windows. The 3100 offered optional chrome-plated bumpers and grilles. Also. in 1950 the 216. 5 cubic inch six was tweaked to put out 92 horsepower at 3400 rpm and 176 ft-LB of torque at 1000 to 2000 rpm.

Known for outstanding dependability. the 3100 Pickup inspired Chevrolet's catchy phrase "like a rock. " Although this pickup was a working man's best friend. it was still a sporty vehicle with a slick. well-rounded look that Americans loved. Chevrolet had about 36% of the truck market share in 1950. and quickly became the top company for quality and reliability.

Advanced Design pickup trucks continued into 1955 and remained on sale until March 25. 1955 when all-new Early V8 pickup trucks were announced by Chevrolet.

The truck being offeredis a strikingly beautiful example of a fully restored 1950 “5-Window” Chevy 3100 ½-ton Pickup Truck.

Unlike most classic pickups that you'll see today. this pickup was restored to factory specs and not modified in any way.   Also unlike most vehicles of this caliber that you see at big name auctions. it is priced for real people with real wallets; WELL BELOW THE “NADA VALUE GUIDE

This pickup truck was originally an Arizona truck purchased by a retired couple from Minnesota. The husband had a lifelong dream of owning and restoring a 1950 5-window Chevy pickup and decided to purchase this truck to fulfill that dream.   Unfortunately he passed away before he was able to restore it so his wife had the truck restored in on honor of him. With no expenses spared over $21. 00 was spent on a COMPLETE FRAME OFF RESTORATION to bring the truck back to factory condition.  Most EVERYTHING on this truck was either restored to like new condition. or replaced with new parts down to the nuts and bolts; interior. exterior. engine. and transmission are all like new.

This truck ONLY has 907 MILES since the restoration!! Prior to restoration the truck reportedly had only 33. 00 original miles on it. All original miles were put on the truck in Arizona. and it was RUST FREE prior to restoration. Since the restoration the truck has only been driven in parades or around town.   The truck was trailered in an enclosed trailer for any long distance trips to car shows in order to maintain the condition of the truck (as shown in the photos). The truck runs out very smooth and with no hesitation or backfiring. and every instrument/gauge/light on the truck is 100% functional.   Fire the engine with a push of the original foot starter. set the choke until warm and select first gear: This gorgeous piece of jewelry is just as roadworthy as it is attractive.

This truck does have the optional rear-quarter windows designed for improved visability making it a “5-window” pickup. which is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.

The transmission is “4-on-the-floor” versus “3-on-the tree” which also makes this particular truck more unique and desireable.

The chrome is brand new and in EXCELLENT condition. As shown in the photos – no pitting. no rust. looks like a mirror.

The paint color was matched to the original Chevy “Forester Green” which is perhaps the most sought after color of its era.   The quality of the paint and the new oak bed is OUTSTANDING. and HAS NEVER SEEN RAIN. This truck has always been stored indoors since the restoration. and only driven on nice sunny days. Again. any time the truck was brought to a show/event far away from home it was trailered in an enclosed trailer (shown in the photos above).

The numbers on the truck are MATCHING and this is the ORIGINAL engine. Please contact me personally for additional photos of the engine numbers if you'd like to see them.

Also included with the pickup is:

·       The original owner's manual (shown in the photos)

·       The receipts from the restoration totaling $21. 00! (shown in the photos)

·       Several trophies it has won over the years including 1st Place at “Prime Steel” (shown in the photos)

·       A banner that was created for display with truck when taken to competitions. (shown in the photos)

·       The wooden side rails for the truck bed(These simply drop in place if you'd like to have them on the truck.   The previous owner never put them on because she didn't want the paint to get scratched. and I've done the same.   They are in perfect condition like the rest of the truck. )

Anyone bidding on the truck in the area is more than welcome to come inspect the truck in person. and start it to listen to it run. However. I will warn you… once you see the truck in person there's no turning back; you'll fall in love with it as I did the first time I saw it.
