1963 Porsche 356B T6 Outlaw LHD

Known as ‘Outlaws'. hot-rodded Porsche 356s have been making heads turn both in and out of the Porsche scene. This example. named ‘Frank' by its creators. is very special indeed.

Built by Tony and Marco Gerace. proprietors of the very well regarded TLG Porsche Service of North Hollywood as their own car. They finished building the 356 in Spring 2004. then enjoyed. developed and improved the car until earlier this year. Being the showcase for their business as well as their own personal toy. the car has been built to an exceptionally high standard. and has benefitted from their vast combined experience in its build and development over nine years and 14k miles.

Starting with a 1963 356B T6. the father and son team restored and repainted the body. but being a Californian car. it still retains its original rust-free floors. The work has been superbly. borne out by the perfect panel fit and superb paint finish in silver with twin red stripes. We have colour-coded bumpers that come with the car but we think it looks better without them.

Inside. the Outlaw continues the theme of being track inspired/ready. but perfectly comfortable for road and touring use. The interior has been completely retrimmed by Levon's Upolstery of California. The rear seats are deleted. there is a rear roll cage and the driver and passenger are held in place by Crow four-point harnesses. yet it is fully carpeted and the front seats are 1974 911 recliners with early headrests retrimmed in matching dark red leather. The driver holds a beautiful Moto Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel and looks at Carrera-style gauges built by North Hollywood Speedometer. including a Custom VDO fuel gauge to replace the clock.

But it's the mechanics of this car where the real magic lies. Replacing the 1600 Porsche four is a hot 2. 4-litre Type IV engine built by Tony Gerace. breathing through two twin-choke downdraught 48mm Webers. which are fed by a long-range factory GT fuel tank.
It employs a FAT Performance upright fan shroud with 911 alternator and fan. Up front are twin auxiliary oil coolers.
The gearbox is a dog-leg 901 five-speed with 914 gears. This gives the car an amazing high-speed cruising ability thanks to the torque from that 2. 4-litre engine as well as well-placed ratios for track driving.
The suspension features Bilstein dampers all round. these are custom affairs at the rear to link up to the 911 SWB suspension. Both front and rear feature 15mm anti-roll bars. At the front and rear 911T vented (and drilled) discs replace the original drums giving the car serious stopping power. Finally. polished/painted ‘deep 6' Fuchs alloys are shod with Toyo Proxes trackday/road tyres.

While it's easy to reel off specifications. it's how these parts come together to make the car drive that's really important. In this case. years of development has resulted in a 356 that is extremely well sorted; a car that manages to find that very rare balance between a comfortable high speed touring car and one that's just as happy on the track. The overall feel of the car is very tight. and while the handling balance is superb. the ride is compliant. The engine has a fantastic spread of power and feels lusty in every gear.

In summary this is a unique. versatile car that stops traffic with its looks and. most importantly. leaves a huge grin on the driver's face.

The 356 is currently being registered in the UK and has 12 months MoT but we are happy to export worldwide.
