Estoril Blue, Turbo Body

1974 BMW 2002. finished in stunning Estoril Blue (a factory color introduced on the M3) with black interior.  Full cosmetic restoration. with Turbo body kit. including flares. front valence. trunk spoiler. and matching lightweight rear bumper with center exhaust. The interior has also been completely reupholstered with new carpet. headliner and door skins. as well as E30 sport front seats and rear bench completely redone in new black vinyl with an accenting carbon fiber weave-patterned vinyl inset. The latter material is also used on the custom center console. which houses 3 new VDO gauges and the radio.

Over the past few years. the car also received a significant amount of mechanical attention from previous owner(s). including but not limited to a full engine rebuild. clutch. brakes and suspension. Nearly $14k (!) in receipts dating back to 2006. with more going back 20 years. all of which will be included. It starts right up. idles smoothly. runs great. shifts easily. and steers and stops as it should. Here are the specifics:

Mechanical

·         Correct original drivetrain. 4 speed.

·         Complete motor rebuild top to bottom. Work done by professional shop specializing in European vehicles.

·         New clutch. pilot bearing. slave cylinder.

·         New Weber Redline carb (32/36).

·         New starter. new heater motor. new radiator.

·         Complete brake rebuild with fresh calipers and lines.

·         New Bilstein HD shocks with H&R lowering springs at all 4 corners.

·         New custom exhaust with center rear exit.

Exterior

·         Refinished in BMW Estoril Blue. vehicle was completely disassembled prior to paint. Base coat/clear coat finish. Stunning color. but with some imperfections as noted below.

·         OEM BMW turbo-model flares. fascia. and trunk spoiler.

·         Rear fiberglass Euro style bumper.

·         Vintage fog lights.

·         Rides on 15x8 Enkei Classic wheels with new Dunlop Direzza DZ 101 tires. size (205/50-15). They fill the flares perfectly – no spacers. no rubbing.

·         Nicely detailed engine compartment. trunk area completed finished to match exterior color and interior materials. along with trunk mounted battery and shock tower brace.

·         All new door. trunk and window weather strip.

·         Very solid car. no rust.

Interior

·         Recaro seats finished in black with carbon fiber look inserts on seats. door and center console.

·         Custom console with VDO gauges and Pioneer CD with flush mounted speakers in rear package tray.

·         New Momo Prototipo leather wrapped wheel with matching shift knob.

·         New headliner done in perforated black.

Though the car has been restored (prior to my ownership). there are some imperfections. In particular. there are various spots. runs and nicks in the paint which may frustrate if you're looking for a concours-level finish. The windows roll up and down fine. however they feel a bit fragile (it's a 40-year old car). The exhaust sounds great. but can get a bit loud. A resonator could be installed by any muffler shop on the cheap. The odometer is not working. currently showing 97. 60. and the true mileage is estimated to be approximately 4-5. 00 miles beyond that figure. Lastly. the seats sit a bit high for my taste. This could be remedied with a bit of fabrication to the seat mounts. which I have not done. Or. I have also secured plenty of the same matching vinyl – both the main and the accent – to recover a new pair of front seats if you found the seating position to be too high. (And there is a very strong market for Recaro E30 sport seats as currently installed. )

In Summary

I purchased the car earlier this year. and I've enjoyed the car. but my timing was lousy. I just don't have the time to drive it much. and the kids' activities are becoming more and more expensive (!).

Last note: my previous “toy” was a rather nice mid-year 911. and that car was practically invisible compared to this one. Don't plan on sneaking around anywhere. This car gets a lot of waves and thumbs-up. every time it leaves the garage.

I have clear title in hand. I'll be very responsive to questions sent through the eBay “Ask Seller” function. I will also be happy to show the car to anybody who would like to see it (Palm Harbor. FL. just west of Tampa). and there are a number of BMW and Euro specialists in the area for a PPI – will accommodate within reason.
