1950 Oldsmobile 88 Convertible. Rare. Not many of these still around! This is an exceptionally nice driver quality vehicle. It is not concourse restored but has been cosmetically restored. I had to have some sheet metal replaced by a body shop (floor sections and rear quarter sections behind the doors) prior to having the complete car painted. Bumpers & grill have been re-chromed. Windshield. door. & rear quarter glass replaced. Convertible top replaced. Radial WSW Tires. All of the wiring has been replaced (Rhode Island Wiring Service. Inc. ) It is still  6-Volt electrical system. The starter cranks it over & starts it just fine so I saw no need to change to 12-Volts. All of the gauges. lights. & turn signals work. It has the original radio & clock but they are not working. It has been made to look like a '50s Custom. That is that the hood & trunk ornaments have been removed as well as the chrome "Oldsmobile" letters on the hood. I have all of these trim parts should the new owner want to replace them. The hood has a natural. factory peak down the middle of it which a lot of us youngsters desired back then. The speedometer is off 10 miles per hour which I haven't got around to fixing yet. I know that there are speedometer repair guys that can make a compensator that goes on the speedometer cable at the transmission because I've gotten them for two other cars I had. Title for vehicle is in my name; none of the complications with an open/idle title!     The only idiosyncrasy about this car is that. nbsp;due to customer complaints about the tires breaking loose when taking off from a standstill. the GM engineers altered the valve body in the transmission so that the car would start off in 2nd gear.  This was due to the new for 1949 powerful V8 having so much torque that drivers had to be careful on acceleration not to depress the accelerator much or the car would squall the tires. I have seen this addressed in some online Oldsmobile forums. Supposedly. dealers were provided with a service memo whereby they could unblock this feature if the customer desired. I found an "Old-timer" online who sent me an instruction about this but a transmission repair shop I've used to fix older transmissions. couldn't figure it out so I've left the transmission alone. The car drives fine without that lower gear; I would just liked to have had it. This was only done on Hydramatic transmissions and only on Oldsmobiles for a short time. about 2 years. and then General Motors went to 3-speed transmissions that eventually became TH350's & TH400's.      I've attempted to describe this car as best as I can but if you have questions. send me your phone number or the "Ask Seller a Question" and I will try to answer and questions you might have. The car is for sale locally so if I get a buyer before the reserve is met I will have to remove the listing. Once the reserve is met. the car will no longer be for sale locally. I hate to let it go but my wife says I'm spending too much time in the garage with this and my other few cars so one of them has to go!
