Hello!
You are bidding on my 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback that is a TRUE factory GT.  Why is this important?  The GT package is one of the most desired factory option packages. and since Ford introduced it late in the 1965 model year it's relatively rare.  It's believed that only about 2% of the total production (all body styles) during the 1965 model year (which ran from April 1964 to August 1965) are Factory GTs.  Because of this rarity. and the outstanding look of the package. you will see a TON of GT clones / tribute cars - coming across a true factory GT is a rare opportunity.  I've owned this car since December of 2009.  Here's a little about the car based on its data plate and VIN:
Warranty Number (VIN) - 5T09A174315
Body: 63B - Luxury Fastback - Pony Interior. only 5. 76 produced according to multiple sourcesColor: J - Rangoon RedTrim: 65 - Red Crinkle Vinyl. Pony InteriorDate: 08T - June 8. 1965DSO: 25 - Richmond. VAAxle: 1 - 3:00-1. ConventionalTrans: 5 - 4 Speed Manual
This Mustang was restored to a very high standard in the mid 1990s when it lived in Colorado.  The attention to detail is impressive. down to replication of inspection marks in the engine compartment and on the underside of the car.  Some comments about the various parts of the car:
Engine / Engine Compartment
289 V8 A code (4 barrel carb) producing 225 horsepower from the factory.  The carb was rebuilt not long before I bought the car by Pony Carbs. who at the time was widely considered the best in the business.  The engine in this car has the "chrome dress-up kit" which was a dealer installed option.  This includes the chrome shock mounts. chrome air cleaner and chrome valve covers.  Most of the replicated inspection marks are still present.  The engine starts and runs beautifully - incredibly smooth for a 50 year old engine. and is believed to be the original engine that came with the car.  All casting numbers are correct for the model.  The correct brake master cylinder is in place (important for distinguishing factory GTs from replicas).
The clutch. pressure plate and flywheel (all center force) were replaced a few years ago and work perfectly.  The transmission is a Borg-Warner T-10 4 speed that shifts smoothly.  There is a bit of a whine in third gear which I've had evaluated by two different transmission specialists (one of which rebuilds all of the transmissions for Gateway Classic Mustang) and they both indicated it's not problematic and is fairly common with this particular transmission.
Quick ratio manual steering is tight and the car tracks perfectly straight with no drift left or right.
Undercarriage
Finished in the proper red oxide primer and detailed with replicas of the factory inspection marks.  Correct front disc brakes (part of the GT package).  The pictures tell the story. it's amazing how clean the underside of this car is given the restoration is 20+ years old.  It's a testament to how well the car has been maintained over the years.  The correct dual GT exhaust is intact. and pictured are the factory reinforced mounting points for the dual exhaust.  This is another important factor to look for when distinguishing between true factory GTs and replicas.
Interior
Finished in the correct crinkle red "pony" interior. the vinyl is in excellent condition both front and back.  I don't know if this is the original interior or if it was replaced when the restoration was completed  The carpet is in excellent condition as well.  The paint on the rally-pac has flaked a bit. and I simply haven't had the time to pull the rally-pac and have it repainted.  There is a color matched full length center console with functioning courtesy lights for the rear seats.
Paint and Exterior
Because it is an older restoration. the paint is starting to show its age.  To a casual observer. it is a '5 footer' and shows extremely well. but to an owner's eye it is more of a '10 footer'.  I would describe the paint as excellent driver quality. with several areas (particularly at seams) where there are very small paint nicks and a few paint 'stars'.   There is no rust. and all body panels are original. The first thing I did when I received the car from the previous owner was to go over every inch with a fabric covered magnet.  I couldn't find any bondo anywhere.
I will also include a show board (not pictured) and several spare parts that were provided to me by the previous owner (original cooling fan. extra air cleaner. etc. )
Several people that have driven her have commented that it is simply the best driving classic mustang they've ever driven.  It really is like driving a car fresh off the factory line.  I've tried to include photos from all angles and that would be of interest.  This car can be enjoyed just as it is. or if you're looking to do a concours correct restoration this gets you a long way down that road.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. and I'll do my best to respond quickly.  If you are in the St. Louis area. we can arrange for you to come see the car in person; or if you prefer I am open to a professional inspection at your expense.  Shipping costs are at buyer's expense. but I am certainly happy to work with you to coordinate the pick up. etc.  Please don't ask me to disclose my reserve price. I will not do so. but know that the price is very fair given the rarity. quality and condition of the car.  No consignment offers entertained or accepted.
Thanks for looking. and good luck bidding!
