Officially there are seven distinct generations of Chevrolet's legendary Corvette. though it can be argued that first generation cars. known as the C1. can be divided into two or even three different versions. The Corvette debuted in 1953 with a stylish fiberglass body enveloping a modified passenger car chassis and warmed-over inline six-cylinder engine. The car was certainly “sporty” but it may not have necessarily been a full-fledged sports car in the face of cars such as the Jaguar XK120. Six-cylinder production carried on through 1955 when it was joined by the all-new 265 cubic inch V8. which finally afforded the Corvette the performance it deserved.
The first major redesign came in 1956 when completely new styling introduced the contrasting “cove” in the body sides – a signature styling feature that remained with the ‘Vette through 1962. New engines were being added on an annual basis to boost performance and offer buyers a full range of options from mild cruiser to all-out sports car. The C1 chassis remained virtually the same as it had since 1953 though it received enhancements and refinements to improve ride and handling quality as engines produced more and more power. The final revision of the C1 came in 1958 when quad-headlight styling dominated the American market and the Corvette was no exception. Heavier chrome grilles and bumpers were added and the ‘Vette became a true beacon of 1950's American style. 1960 marked the final year for the rounded tail and integrated taillights before the sharp. four-taillight theme arrived. hinting at the radical C2 that was just around the corner. Today. C1 Corvettes hold a special place among enthusiasts. While they may not necessarily be the most sporting of all Corvettes. they represent the pinnacle of 50's Americana and capture the essence of the era like few other cars.

RB Collection presents this tidy and well-sorted 1960 Corvette roadster. Finished in classic Roman Red with Ermine White coves over a red interior. this little Corvette ticks all the right boxes for us. It wears its older restoration well. showing some light patina in the paint but otherwise remaining very attractive and sound. The extensive chrome trim is generally quite good and has held up very well over the years showing no signs of corrosion. excessive pitting or dings. Body panels fit well and the doors open and close well. Spinner hubcaps on steel wheels are shod with wide-whitewall radial tires in excellent condition. An original hard top is included which also presents in good condition.
The red interior has been very nicely restored with correct seat upholstery. red carpets and all correct instrumentation and switch gear. The seats remain in very good order with no sagging or degradation of the foam pads and no blemishes to speak of in the upholstery. The original shift lever and original steering wheel remain. and the door panels. with their distinct alloy inserts. are in excellent condition. A set of chrome lift-latch seatsbelts have been fitted for added safety. The original Wonder Bar radio is still in the dash as is the original clock. A white vinyl top is fitted. presenting excellent condition with no excessive stains or wrinkles in the upholstery or the rear window. Fitment of the top is excellent and the frame is in very good order. A hard top is included for those who prefer long distance touring or cool weather drives.
The 283 cubic inch small block is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission as originally equipped. The engine is a replacement unit. though the original cylinder heads are included in the sale. Underhood detailing is tidy and clean. with an emphasis on reliable driving. A single four-barrel carb feeds the 283. and the original air cleaner and distributor shielding remain intact. The engine runs strong and the car exhibits excellent road manners. For a Corvette enthusiast looking for an enjoyable and nicely sorted example of the C1 for driving and touring. this car represents an excellent opportunity. The older restoration has held up remarkably well and this car can be thoroughly enjoyed as is or freshened as needed to suit the next owner's tastes. Note: If the deposit is not received within forty-eight hours (2 business days) or if the sale is not complete within 7 days of the close of the auction. we reserve the right to sell to the next highest bidder or to another qualified buyer.
