austin 8 for sale
Current customer rating: (391 votes ) based ongreat little Austin 8 this is a very solid little it has been restored by an elderly gent over an 8 year period and just needs a few jobs finished and would easily be ready to enjoy next summer season bad points first
BAD POINTS
springs saggy and flat (BUT HAVE A SECOND HAND SET INC)
one trafficator needs replacing
carb need re conditioning
what should be chrome is painted silver
not all gauges working as they should
paint could do with further improvement
drivers seat needs two bolts to hold rear frame down
ignition key/barrel worn can be a little tricky to turn on
GOOD POINTS
all the hard work is done
engine rebuilt and rebored to plus 30 still needs running in
new tyres
drives well
brakes work well inc handbrake
steering light and feels good
all round solid little car
chassis was removed from body during restoration
interior has all been done inc rear window blind
sunroof opens as does front window and all door looks work
all lights work
charging system converted to 12v (original dynamo inc )
as stated basically a lovely solid little car it has been restored over a number of years but the final finishing touches never got done as the gent decided to move abroad so he never got to really enjoy his hard work but you could !! the car still runs its 6v wiring alternator charges two 6v batteries and the feed is taken from one battery to operate the system the starter is 6v but powered with 12v this is often done on old yanks and vw and presents little problems due to the heavy windings on a 6v starter . he starts and drives well but she does not run quite as crisp as she should due to the carb I have tried to adjust it but think reconditioning is the answer there are a few companies around who due this and it is not that expensive . The paint look good from a few feet away but could do with some improvement a mop and polish would help a lot I would use as it is as I think it has a nice aged look about it but I don't like shiny show cars . The bright work has been done in silver paint and does let it down a little but as you see in the photos it still looks good This car has had a lot of time and effort put into it and all the hard work is done and with a bit of elbow grease and time it would be a lovely sunday day out car . You could not buy a car in need of restoration and get it to this standard for the asking price. Or the other option would be to drab olive her and turn it into a ww2 army/raf staff car they do look great in that guise and with 40s themed hanger dances increasing in popularity and general 40s fashion and nostalgia you could even earn a few pounds proms events etc I have the v5c viewing is welcomed and recommended this is a 67 year old car its not new please bear that in mind cash on collection only!!! there is no tax or mot ( exempt anyway)( other than the carb and the trafficator I am sure it would be road worthy) so will need trailering away thanks for looking
