HISTORIC 1937 LINCOLN ZEPHYR V-12 TRENDSETTER FROM ART DECO ERA NO RESERVE!

IMPORTANT INTRODUCTORY NOTES:  This 1937 LINCOLN ZEPHYR is an important and historic Classic Car.   It is considered by many experts to be the first successful streamlined American car .   Unlike the Chrysler Airflow's streamlining approach a few years earlier. the Lincoln Zephyr was universally recognized as a very handsome and desirable car. and it proved popular among premium car buyers.   There is a definite "art deco era" flair to its design. both the front and back ends of the car are particularly dramatic.

All 1937 Lincoln Zephyrs featured a V-12 engine!  Today. only the world's most expensive and exotic cars (such as Bentley. Rolls-Royce. and Aston Martin).

THE FIRST DOZEN PICTURES OR SO will give you a general overview of the Zephyr. but if you are seriously interested. we suggest that you look at ALL 100+ images because we want you to see the car in detail.

IMPORTANT COLOR NOTE:  The car is definitely Maroon. but some images taken in bright sunlight make the car appear more of a  "cherry red" .

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING. TO SEE ALL THE IMAGES: There are over 100 images that will show the car in great detail. BUT. to see ALL of the images. you MUST place your cursor DIRECTLY ON an image. and then scroll gently ALL the way to the bottom (be sure to allow time for all the images to load). NO RESERVE:  EXCELLENT INVESTMENT!!!

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE LINCOLN ZEPHYR:  In 1936. Lincoln boldly introduced the Lincoln Zephyr model line-up.   All were V-12 equipped and featured what was considered the first truly beautiful approach to streamlining in an American car.   Contemporary automotive publications such as AUTOCAR and MOTOR raved about the comfort and performance of this car.

In 1937. refinements to this already highly acclaimed car were made.   Most noticeable. was a new and stylish symmetrical instrument panel. with glove boxes conveniently located on BOTH the right and left sides - and with center-situated instrumentation.

BACKGROUND ON THIS CAR:  This example of the 1937 Zephyr is owned by a fellow car collector friend in the Atlanta Metro Region.   He has a great appreciation of important cars from the Classic art deco-inspired era and felt that this was one of the most desirable cars of that era.   In retirement now. he has decided to reduce his collection.

The car appears to have a very high level of originality. re-painting and seat/door panel re-upholstering are the most noticeable aspects of restoration. Very little other change from what we believe to be original appears anywhere else on the car.

The oral history of the car has some interesting aspects. that this car had been voted "People's Choice" at a Mississippi show. that it had appeared on television. and that the dash/instrument panel (with the exception of two modern gauges mounted inside the left glove compartment) is original.   Needless to say. it draws crowds wherever it is shown or driven. as most people have never seen anything like it.   Even experienced collectors and enthusiasts who are aware of the car. have not generally seen one in person.

OPERATIONAL REPORT:  The car was test driven during the photo-session for this listing and it performed well.   Please do keep in mind however. that enormous strides have been made in automotive engineering in the 76 years since this car's manufacture. and a ride in a 1937 Lincoln is nothing like a ride in a 2013 car.   It has a charming quality to it. it rumbles and vibrates along in a way that is most impressive from the standpoint that it is 76 years old and indeed RUNS.   Braking. in particular. is quite primitive by today's standards and requires a bit of "advanced planning".   We would recommend trailering for long-distance travel. with local low-speed rides through the neighborhood or onto the judging field.

None of the original instruments on the dash (including speedometer. odometer) or the radio are operational. and the driver's window mechanism needs attention as it cannot be rolled up and down.   The window handle was placed on the shaft for the photo-session. but the pin to attach it is not in place. this is to facilitate easier removal of the door panel for future repair of the window mechanism.
