Ford Mustang Mach 1 for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 443 votes

This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is arguably one of the finest examples in the UK right now.

The reserve has been dropped again - this car needs a good home before winter!

Outside: It was subject to a bare metal re paint several years ago now into this Ford Bright Island Blue with correct side graphics. the car is truly stunning and as you can see from the images it is arrow straight and rust free. During the re paint the front wings. hood and doors were removed. all internal unseen surfaces were waxoiled prior to reassembly. The car has had many of its weather strips replaced as shown in the images. new door seals and bump stops. the quality of the paint work extends to the door shuts. even the underside of the bonnet is as good as the top! A brand new set of Magnum 500 wheels have been fitted to complete the look.

Engine: The car is fitted with a 351 Cleveland 4V (the embossed number 4 can be seen on the cylinder heads) there's plenty of references on the internet which explain the differences between the 2 and 4V so I won't ramble on about that here. Essentially this is the more sought after engine. the one with the huge intake ports and 4brl carburetor. This motor has had in the last few hundred miles a new cam shaft and lifters. the cam is slightly more aggressive than stock but still a hydraulic flat tappet that idles nicely from cold and behaves well in traffic. The intake has been changed to an Edlebrock Performer (however the original intake is included in the sale – should you want to refit it) a new 750 vacuum secondary Holley was also recently installed and a new billet Mallory distributor. The water pump has also been replaced with a new Edlebrock unit. exhaust exits through a pair of 40 Series Flowmaster boxes so it sounds good. Apart from a brand new battery the rest is untouched. the engine starts well. runs great and looks good. Lastly the images show aftermarket strut braces. I have the originals still and will include these in the sale. I left the polished aluminium ones on as it makes the engine bay less cluttered.

Inside: The car has had a brand new carpet fitted within the last few weeks to freshen the interior. it is a console car as can be seen all of which is intact and in good condition. the dash is in good condition too and factory gauges still work however a set of aftermarket oil pressure. volt meter and water temperature gauges were fitted at some time in the past. I assume the feeds for these were taken from the factory gauges which are still present although rendering them void. The aftermarket gauges appear to work just fine but could be removed should you wish to restore the ‘factory look' as the heater controls are with the car which were apparently removed in order to fit the new gauges. (So the heater is on bypass at present) The front seats show signs of their 40 year age and whilst still function (fold forward) and are comfortable could be re-covered if the new owner wanted as the covers are readily available. There is a modern type CD player installed which works fine.

Paperwork: The previous owner wasn't much for keeping records or paperwork so the car will not come with a wad of history and receipts I'm afraid. It was MOT tested in early June 2013. is taxed until December 2013 and note in April next year this car will be tax free! Yes it is on a Q plate. the V5 states ‘year of manufacture unknown' which is odd as the first number in the VIN is a 3 for 1973 so you wouldn't think it was that difficult. Anyway this didn't bother the previous owner or me and I'm sure a correct year plate won't affect the looks or the way it drives. however if this is an issue for you I have contacted the DVLA and the email I got back states:

“Thank you for your email received on 8/7/13. Your email reference number is 1388590.

It may help to explain that if the keeper is subsequently able to produce documentary evidence as to the age and/or date of first use of the vehicle. the agency will consider the allocation of an age-identifier number.

Please send the following documents to the below address:

V5C registration certificate

Evidence of age

MOT ( if applicable)

Photo copy of the tax disc

You will receive correspondence within 4 weeks. ”

So it's that simple. get the VIN verified. a Mustang owners club may be helpful here and then you'll get your age appropriate plate!

Upon requesting a value for this car the ‘experts' have told me it's worth what someone wants to pay for it so I decided to put it up for auction.

There are other Mach 1's out there of this vintage but not like this.

3rd listing - Revised reserve.
