I bought this a couple of years ago.  By now. I thought I would have it in the barn. and pretty much stripped down to the body shell.  That did not happen.  It seems foolish to just let this sit the way it is.  So. I do not know very much about the car. and since I've never driven it. I can't offer any insight there either.  But. it is pretty obvious it needs a total restoration--and it would be worth it.  Let's can all the hooey about how "rare" any particular car is:  1942 anythings are pretty rare. and the Chrysler coupes are no exception.  If you want numbers. it is on the net.  Speaking of the net. if you look up 1942 Chrysler there will be "More photos of:" and click on that.  You will see a '42 coupe in either very dark blue or black.  It is really nice.  That's what I had planned for this.  On the other hand. this would make a really cool retro-rod. updating the mechanicals while keeping the appearance stock.  So much for my dreams!  (Two of the things I think looks better on the '42 than the post-war models is: 1) The grill and speed trim on the fenders; 2) the front fenders DO NOT extend into the doors like the post-war Dodge. DeSoto and Chrysler models.
What I can tell you is this:  The previous owner had the cylinder head redone and stated that he had the engine running (using a can of gas. not off the tank).  The car was originally a dark grey with the oxblood interior.  Car has radio. clock. heater. leather and fluid-drive. which I think were all options on the Windsor.  I have no idea what does or doesn't work.  There are a couple stainless trim rings. two different sets of hubcaps and the wide white metal trim rings that were used in place of white-wall tires in '42.
About a year ago. a 1941 Convertible was for sale on eBay in which the owner stated that he had purchased new restoration pieces for the dash from a restorer who had molds of these pieces.  And indeed. the dash looked GREAT!  His car had an ivory / yellow color to the dash pieces.  The ones in this car as you can see are a red/white speckled pattern. which matches the steering wheel.  I had asked for info about who made the pieces. but did not get a reply.  Point being:  somewhere out there is a guy who makes reproduction pieces for the dash on these years of Chrysler.  (As I understand it. Chrysler was one of the first to use plastic in dash designs and ornamentation. ). The only reason I mention this is to pass on the info.  If you have any info regarding this I will be happy to post it here for others benefit.
Overall condition:  Body:  Fair.  It has sheet metal rust but it is not a total rust bucket.  Obviously (from the photos) the rockers are rusted. there is some rust-through in the floors. there is rust along the trailing edge of the trunk area and some splits at the trunk floor-to-sides seam.  Under the car is rust scale but I do not see any rust through in the frame.  Bear in mind I've not had this up on a lift.  Passenger side of two-piece windshield is cracked--but that is a relatively minor issue.  All the trim pieces are there. as far as I can tell. and overall. in pretty good shape. but some pieces have dents but they are stainless. so they can be repaired and polished.  See photo.  There is one extra trim piece for passenger side of grill. and three extra trim pieces for the rear fenders.  However. there is only one skirt.  Mechanical:  no factual or personal knowledge.  It is what it is.

A really cool car that I wish I had the resources to do right.  Maybe you do!  All the usual caveats apply: no warranty. shipping is at your expense. etc. . etc. . etc.  I'm not looking to make a killing off the deposit.  So let's keep that at $250. 00 via pay pal. non-refundable.  The balance can be paid in cash upon pick-up or by certified check (which must clear before car is released) if you are having it shipped.  Now here's my fair offer:  Try to come see the car. or have someone look at it for you.  If you can not do that. but come to pick up the car in person and are not satisfied or change your mind then we'll cancel the purchase. no hard feelings.  If you buy the car but cannot come to see it. and intend to have it shipped or picked up by a third party. then please honor you commitment.
Thanks for looking.
