Bombardier

This 1985 Bombardier Iltis (German for Polecat) is essentially a Volkswagen Type 183 commissioned by the Canadian military and built in the Bombardier factory in Canada by Volkswagen / Audi.   Only 2. 00 were built as Bombardiers and 9. 547 worldwide (VW / Bombardier).   The vehicle was designed by Audi with a 4WD system that provided the basis for the famous Audi Quattro system.   The engine has a low 8. 2:1 compression ratio. allowing it to run on low-octane gas.   Believe it or not. it gets 36 mpg!!!  The 4WD is engaged by a lever on the floor. as are the optional differential locks.   It has a rack-and-pinion steering and many suspension parts are the same on all four corners.  

The interior is very comfortable. unlike most military vehicles.   All the upholstery was re-done recently.   The Iltis was completely restored last summer and all noticeable rust removed. except on the back of the rear removable seats.   They remain fully functional. however.   The top is brand new. as are all four doors (there are four spares that come with the sale).   The red cross bag holds all four doors and snaps to the hood.   The body is super straight.

There are two brand new Bosch batteries replaced last month.   Four brand new Goodyear tires are on the vehicle more suitable for road driving.   It also comes with five excellent off road Goodyears (just like the spare).   Brakes and tune up recently done with new waterproof spark plugs.   Yes. this is an amphibious vehicle.   It has very few miles on it. which are correct  (calculated in kilometers. around 14. 00 km / 8700 miles).   It has two odometers. the 1st got a crack in it and was immediately replaced. both come with the sale.   Also come with two DVD manuals.   Some pictures show the ambulance light and some do not.   I take it off so it will fit in my garage.   Frankly. I'd rather remove that whole bar. but that is the buyer's choice.   It also comes with the gas tank which is only shown in one or two of the pix mounted on the driver side.

This is an amazing vehicle with thousands spent on it.   It needs nothing. get's fantastic mileage. will go anywhere. and you get thumbs up by all.   I have many pictures and a couple youtube videos.   This vehicle has lights all over. many hidden for military purposes.   The trailer is extra and can be purchased after the sale. if interested.   If Buy It Now feature is used. however. it will come with the sale at no extra cost.  

Comes with an all weather Jeep radio that needs hooked up.   The rear heater needs a new fuel pump installed (brand new part included with line).   Gauges all work.   It starts. runs. drives. stops great!

I can send more pictures if Ebay allows it.   I have tried to represent this vehicle to the best of my ability. including any known flaws.   This is a very fine example of the rare Iltis that you probably never see in the U.
