Most of them are backdated examples built on later SC or Carrera chassis. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact. I own one personally that I use for all of our touring events. However. when a true early longhood 911 outlaw/RS like this pops up. I'm quickly reminded why we love these early cars so much. This is an older build that was done right. It wasn't about dumping huge horsepower in a German beer can and then lighting the torch. It was all about extracting the essence of driving a true 911 RS. This example is light. great power. tight. and well balanced. Many people don't realize it. but this is what most are really striving to achieve when building a cool modified old Porsche 911. This Porsche left the factory in June of 1970 as a 911 E coupe. We believe it lived most of its life in California. Sometime in the 90's. the owner of a local SoCal Porsche parts business decided to build an RS tribute with this car. The car looked very similar visually to what it is today. Shortly after finishing it. he sold the car to a long time early 911 enthusiast in Oregon. This owner was actually looking for a 2. 2L 911S at the time. but his family friend convinced him this was the car to buy. He kept the car for 4-years and really enjoyed it. Towards the end of 2002 he sold it to the current Orange County/SoCal owner as he finally found his 2. 2L S project.   For the last 15-years. the current owner has used the car for weekend touring. local car shows. and even the occasional driving school/local autocross. When this owner got the car. it had a 2. 7L Weber carbureted motor in it. However. in 2006. he ended up buying a vintage 911 racecar that had a fresh 2. 9L MFI motor in it. Well-respected engine builder Alan Faragallah of Aase Motors built this motor. So. he did some engine swapping and this MFI motor ended up in this 911. At the end of last year. the current owner decided that it was time for an engine refreshing. He ended up rebuilding most of the motor including new pistons and cylinders. The recent engine build (finished August of 2016) was nearly $16. 00. There is less than 500-miles on the build and it just had its break-in oil service using Brad Penn oil. The 2. 9L motor was a bit too aggressive for the street as it was running over 11:1 compression. So. he employed the help of Jae Lee. Jae is the owner of Mirage Intl. It is one of SoCal's top independent Porsche shops. They are responsible for some of the best air cooled engine builds in the area including early development for the Singer motors. Jae knows how to not only build a reliable motor. but a fast motor as well. After the build. on the dyno it showed 254hp and 235tq to the rear wheels (see pics). Highlights of this build include: Engine (built by Aase Motors/Rebuild by Mirage Intl. ) 2. 8 Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection (MFI) Built on an early 2 liter aluminum case Case was boat tailed and shuffle pinned ARP rod bolts 3. 2 Carrera oil pump Custom JE pistons matched for near perfect tolerances (see pic) DC 60 cams Compression ratio 9. 8:1  AASCO springs and retainers Throttle bodies fully rebuilt Pertronix. Although the paint is around 20-years old. it was obviously a very nice job. The owner recently had the front repainted to remove most of the rock chips from normal use. There are minimal signs of use. The fitment of the flares and panel gaps is excellent. All the glass looks great as does the rubber and original brightwork. The hood and deck lid do not have shocks (warps when closed). Someone tried putting a hood strut on and it cracked the paint on the hood (see pic). The Fuch wheels look good with no curb rash and are wearing tires with about 75% life remaining. The brakes have more than half-life remaining. The interior looks equally as nice. It is clean and minimalist…as a RS lightweight should be. The seats are new and show no wear. The door panels and carpet are in great shape. The headliner looks to be original if not very old with some minor staining. but no tears and is in very good shape. The dash looks great with no cracks. The original speaker cover has some slight warping. All the gauges function properly including the clock. The heater controls work as well as the rear defroster. All the lights function properly except for the reverse lights and interior lights. This sport purpose built 911 drives fantastic. It starts with no smoke and idles great. The power feels extremely strong with great low-end torque and excellent throttle response. The car feels very light and easy to steer. It tracks nicely. The gearbox is smooth and connected. Gear selecting is easy and precise. There is no grinding or slipping. The gear ratios are perfect for this set up. The brakes have incredible initial bite and are really well-suited for performance street driving. This early 911 would be a blast on vintage touring events. weekend canyon carving. or even cruises to your local car show. It is simple. well-built. sorted. and pure. California registration is paid through February of 2018. Vehicle Photos: About Auto Kennel: Our Story
