This is a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Presenting a rare 1970 Ford Torino Cobra in its original color. Calypso Coral with black interior.   The car has recently undergone a 2-year restoration and presents better than the day it left the factory floor!

This remarkable piece of American Muscle Car history sat dormant in a barn in the middle of Wisconsin for more than 30 years and has been bought back to life.

It was originally sold by Alphorn Ford in Monroe. WI on 05/11/1970 and then traded to Middleton Ford in Madison. WI in 1974 with 72. 05 miles. A then-employee of the dealership jumped at the opportunity to buy the car and enjoyed it for a short two years putting only 2. 00 miles on the car. He even included it in his wedding! The car competed at Byron Drag Strip until it developed a coolant leak at which time the original 429CJ was removed from the car and a beefed up 351C was installed in its place. Now discouraged. the car was sold to a neighbor just down the street driven off and on for less than a year and then parked in a hay barn in 1976 where it sat for more than 30 years! In late 2010 a 302 was installed in an attempt to get the car road worthy again without luck and its current owner purchased the car in December of that year with the intent of bringing the car back to its former glory.

Once the car was purchased it was discovered the original numbers matching engine was still sitting in the garage of the second owner. no less than 3-miles from where the car had sat. After more than 6-weeks of banter and negotiation the engine was secured with the intent to reunite it with the car!

The vehicle features its original “J” Code (Ram Air) 429ci Cobra Jet V8 engine with shaker scoop that has been completely rebuilt by Dons Auto Parts of Kenosha. WI. along with its original Ford Top Loader 4-speed transmission. which was rebuilt by Mild-to-Wild. Salem. WI. The transmission features the Hurst Competition Super Shifter. a factory option that came with a short throw and 7” shifter. as opposed to the standard Hurst T-handle shifter seen in most other cars. Every component of the suspension was gone through with new. correct shocks and staggered rear air shocks being installed along with power brake components. Magnum 500 wheels (as originally optioned) and BF Goodrich radial tires of the correct size for drive-ability. A full size spare is also provided with the car. A brand new 2. 5" dual exhaust system. specially ordered and built to stock specifications from front to back was installed. The original Ford Nine Inch rear end is in place (the previous owner had installed 4. 30 gears for faster track times. and these are still in the car. but the correct 3. 00 gears are provided with the sale should the new owner wish to switch them back).

The car runs and drives as beautiful as it looks. It was decided to leave the odometer showing the original 74xxx miles. although the car has driven less than 200 miles since the restoration was completed and has recently had the break in oil and all other fluids replaced.

The car was stripped to bare metal. sprayed with etching primer. and then treated to multiple coats of base paint in the original and correct Calypso Coral. and then even more coats of clear. The trademark hood blackout was painstakingly reproduced to exact specifications and then finished in matte-clear for ease of maintenance.  There is NO rust on the car period. There was no evidence of any previous damage to the car when the restoration was started and the body is straight and solid.

The interior. which has the rare bench seat/4-speed combination (less than 100 were built). was completely restored to original condition. New upholstery. carpet and headliner were installed. The original door panels with the rare Cobra emblems. instruments including the factory ribbon tachometer and dash were refurbished. The car also has its factory AM radio installed.

Documentation that is provided with the car includes a Deluxe Marti Report. the original build sheet. original owner’s manual. photographs of the restoration and clear title in the sellers name.

The car was unveiled at the 2012 Chicago World of Wheels show where it was awarded “Outstanding in Class”. In the only other show the car has been displayed. the Lake in the Hills National Police Night Out Car Show. the car earned “Best in Class”. It was featured in the July 2012 issue of New Zealand Classic Car magazine. voted “Best Barn Find” in Chasing Old Cars in September 2012. and has been submitted upon his request to Jerry Heasley for feature in an upcoming “Rare Finds” column.

The car privately owner and this will be a private party sale. The car has been stored indoors in climate controlled storage since the restoration has been completed. and has not been exposed to rain and/or snow.
