1968 Jaguar 340. Auto. power steering. Full NSW rego.
The last of the Mk2s. On full rego (until April 2014). driven regularly. goes pretty well. but plenty of small jobs to do to keep an enthusiast busy. Looks a million bucks… from a distance. Even close up it looks great. but the trained eye will quickly detect flaws the layman is blind to. Looks to have been resprayed more than once. Original colour was white. It's now quite a warm white – not the original shade but very attractive.  The 340 came factory fitted with  the “new” Borg Warner BW 35 auto transmission. power steering. and a straight port cylinder head. Visually distinguishable  from the Mk2 by the slim line bumpers. and inside by the Ambla (soft vinyl) upholstery. With its relatively big engine for its size and 4 wheel disc brakes it has no trouble in modern traffic.  Have owned for approx 7 years. driven on weekends and second car when needed. but I need a more practical 2nd car now – eg a modern wagon.  Unknown number of previous owners. There is a folder of ancient receipts. I first laid eyes on this Jag at my mechanics (classic and Jag specialist) where he informed me it was going to be for sale soon.   So now she has had the same mechanic for 2 owners.  Engine has minor oil weeps. nothing dripping. Engine bay is a bit messy. wiring could do with a tidy up. Goes very well (3. 4litre straight 6). easily fast enough for modern traffic but could use some attention because when engine hot. pings under load. No problem in normal driving. Foot to the floor up a hill and it does ping. but only when hot.  Auto transmission had not caused any trouble under my ownership – fluid has good colour.  Brakes – fine. Very good stoppers. 4 wheel discs.  Reconditioning done over the last couple of years on hand brake (including fabricating parts that will last much longer than originals). power steering (lots of parts rebuilt). front suspension. carbs. new fuel pump. water pump. starter switch. brake light switch. Speedo has been serviced.  No side mirrors ever fitted.  Rust – small bubbles in bottom of rear doors and boot lid. I started to patch up the boot lid – the dark paint is undercoat – but it needs to be done properly. There is already small amounts of bog around those rust bubbles (magnet test). so they have been treated before. A few other places (footwells. spare wheel area) have been treated (POR 15) and under control. Paint is crazing in places – front wings. scuttle area. Rear bumper pulled out slightly from body on one side. Rear beaver panel small dent. Scuttle vent has limited movement – it was seized but regular sprays of lubricant have partially freed it up.  Almost complete set of new rubbers provided. All windows and doors. So far I've only had a chance to install a new boot rubber and the drivers door window rubbers. Some of the wheels have minor rust but I have a much better set that I've been gradually changing to – they are all included. Flat hub wire wheels which are the correct style for the 340. Spare steering wheel better than the one on at the moment. Front passengers seat vinyl is brittle and cracked in a few places (why do people have to put their soccer boots on in the car?). Top of rear seat is brittle. was slightly cracked until a bored child picked  at it and now there is a tear and a hole…  which reminds me there is also a child restraint fixing post installed. The stereo is kaput. Heater is by-passed.  I have tried  to photograph the the worst aspects. Normally I have old carpets installed and temporary covering for the inside drivers door. I have most of the original underfelt and small pieces of carpet for the footwells. but it's probably only of use to make patterns. So it needs new carpets. drivers door card. and some uphostery work. The sunvisors are ones I bought on Ebay and the colour isn't correct.   Next  service I would get some new radiator hoses and clamps – I've had to tighten them all  up recently. In the boot photo you can see the incomplete toolkit. the torn and worn original bootmat folded up and surface rust. (there is a small rust hole in the spare wheel well – it's been rustproofed but need finishing).
Includes factory workshop manual.  That's all I can think of for now. Inspection is welcome in Paddington. Sydney.

Hi, Do you know the condition of the motor, does it use oil or overheat in traffic.
Very interested but live in Victoria can you assist if I arrange transport for it.
Kind Regards Laurie.
