Welcome to our auction for a 1949 Ford F2 (3/4 ton) pick up truck.

We are David and Cameron from Highview Cars. a long established (20 years) used car trading company based in Enfield north London. We have sold hundreds of cars successfully on ebay from 2002 onwards. we have a 100% rating for all of our cars that we've ever sold and have never received a negative feedback. We do not sell many cars in auction format on ebay any more as it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep standards and service as high as we did and make any money. particularly when the recession bit. However when we have an interesting vehicles come our way that deserves some extra attention from us. we now use the classified section on ebay.

This is one of those interesting vehicles. this is a 1949 Ford F2 (3/4 ton) pick up truck. We are selling this truck on behalf of its owner who personally imported it in 2004 from the US. It was actually purchased on ebay - within the paperwork there is a copy of the original 2004 listing showing that it was sold to its current owner for $5100.  From this point. the owner had the task on his hands of transporting it to the UK from Minnesota and spent a small fortune on shipping and tax along with further expenses to make it UK road legal.  Since then it has had £1000's spent on it with various service and restoration work including a full engine rebuild and conversion to unleaded fuel. Many parts have been sourced from the US and every bill. including shipping costs have been kept to show what has been spent. its is an impressive log.

According to the original ebay listing. after living on a farm for the first part of its life. this truck spent much of its life as a show piece. sitting in electrical company's reception area.  From here it was then used for display in an restaurant in North Dakota! The paintwork is apparently all original. apart from the sign writing and primer patches that were put on for decoration when it was displayed in the restaurant.

It feels solid. it looks solid and it really is solid! There's some surface rust around the pick up area but there are no holes and absolutely no rot. The underside is incredibly clean as is the engine bulkhead. the running boards feel as though they could support virtually anything and the floor of the pick up area is excellent. Of course. it could be easily painted. depending on what type of look the new owner is in to. We think it looks just great as it is. as it looks incredibly authentic. Often these trucks do get turned into hotrods. which would be a relatively painless and fun conversion for this truck.

The interior is very clean. the bench seat is in excellent condition with no obvious sagging or wear. all of the dash and switchgear are in excellent order.

So how does it drive? Well. think oversized ancient Land Rover. It has 6-volt electrics so it's started by a starter pack which is mounted in the cab. The starter motor slowly turns the straight six over and it quickly comes to life. The engine is remarkably quiet and ticks over smoothly. First gear is selected using the surprisingly light clutch. This gear will enable the truck to move at a brisk walking pace. second gear about 10-15mph and third and fourth will take you to a maximum of around 60mph (a guess as the speedo does not work). The transmission noise is quite loud under load. as is the roar of the tyres on the road. The steering is fairly vague and the brakes work as well as you would expect them to. in other words they do stop this truck but you really do need to think ahead a little. Overall though this truck is very driveable. despite being a 65 year old. I've driven quite a few cars from the 1940's and in comparison this truck is very easy to master.

In conclusion. this must be a unique truck by now. It is has lived an unusual but easy salt and moisture free life on the other side of the Atlantic. after which is was bought by an English enthusiast. who has been happy to spend time and money restoring many moving parts and renewing hundreds of components. in order to make it UK user friendly. There are lots of trucks for sale on ebay. some needing complete restoration. others having had nut and bolt clinical customisation. many of them not actually here in this country. This truck is here with us in north London waiting for its next episode. it is ready to be driven off and can be enjoyed and used as it is. Before purchase it can be poured over. driven. tested and inspected.

It get's an alot of attention! It is also worth mentioning that in its current livery and useable state. this truck has potential for use in period film/TV.
