1968 Mustang fastback project car.

I've just imported this from Florida where it had been laid up in a barn for years. All the import VAT. duty and taxes are all paid and I have all the paperwork. Once you've restored it and it has an MoT. there's just one short form to fill out and send to the DVLA who will then issue the car with a UK number plate. I've done this with my last two Mustangs and it's really straight forward and easy. I even have some spare copies of the form you need which I'll give you with the car.

I collect mustangs (I have 4 at the moment) and I'd planned to restore this one as a Bullitt tribute car. It will be worth somewhere around £25-30K when complete. My plans have changed however as we've just bought a house and I'm losing my garage space (and my fiancée says the new house needs a new kitchen) so regrettably. I'm having to sell this car.

I am not a car dealer and I am not making any profit on this car. I am actually now selling this at a loss. it cost me more than the asking price to buy it in America and import it into the UK (I have invoices to prove).

When you buy a car from the USA. you have to accept the risks that it could arrive damaged or with parts missing or stolen. or not arrive at all! I was lucky with this one. although it did take over 4 months to arrive after I'd paid for it.

Just a quick note on the price of the car…If the opening bid of this auction is more than you would like to spend. I'd really prefer you didn't email me with an offer lower than this. Instead I'd invite you to try buying from America yourself (you definitely won't find a cheaper 68 fastback in the UK) have a look into the cost and hassle of flying to America. finding a suitable car that has a clean US title and isn't stolen. sorting out all the paperwork. booking it onto a container ship. delivering it to a port. waiting (months) anxiously for it to arrive in the UK. going to the port. paying the customs charges. collecting the car and transporting it home. Sorry to make such a big deal of this. but I've already had a few really crazy offers. one guy offered my less than the price of the shipping from the US to the UK!

Ok. back to the car. As you can see from the photos (I've tried to photo the worst bits so you can see it fairly) It does require restoration which includes new floorpans and a new trunk floor. but I've already bought all the sheet-metal from America and it comes with the car (included in the auction

The bottoms of the doors are quite crusty. and although they are probably repairable. I sourced a super-straight rust free pair of doors (from a Mustang racecar) which are also included too. see the photo of the doors with the loud paintjob

One of the front frame rails has rust where the battery sat above it (common place for them to corrode)  but the rest of the frame rails are solid. I found a breakers yard in the US and got them to cut out the whole front frame rail and inner wing section from a solid donor car. This is also included in the auction. You could choose to weld in the whole thing. or just use it to cut suitable patches.

The 289 V8 (which is the car's original matching numbers engine) turns over freely by hand but I've not tried to fire it up. All engine ancillaries are with the car which includes the power steering. The front seats are from a 1969 car (highbacks) but everything else looks original.

The glass is all good and the loom is all in place. The car is an original automatic. fitted with a standard C4 Ford auto-gearbox.

Originally it didn't come with the highly desirable fold down rear seat. so one was sourced from a mustang swap-meet in Florida. This also comes with the car. If you don't want this. you can knock off £200 from the price (that's what it cost me. but you could probably resell it for closer to £400 as they're super-rare over here)

The interior panels are all with the car although they're not shown in the photos. The interior vent covers are with it too. The rear valence is with the car too. although not shown in the photos. The radio bezel is there too. as are the rear lights.

The bonnet in the photos has been swapped for a nice solid replacement.

The photos of the floors might look a little daunting. but I've priced it accordingly and it does come will all the metal with which to repair it. Its over £20K cheaper than a restored example and it doesn't cost anything like £20K to restore these cars. (I know from experience as I've restored several) To give you a real life example. I've just finished restoring a 1966 car that was in similar condition to this when I started its restoration. It had no engine or gearbox or any wiring. glass or even any wheels!. and the total spend on that (to a really high standard) is less than £6K and now it's a fully sorted immaculate example that's worth many thousands more than I spent on it. It was also masses of fun to do and I was looking forward to doing this fastback as my next project until my circumstances changed.

If you've got an angle-grinder. a welder and a bit of patience. you'll end up with a really lovely car for significantly less that you'd spend if you bought a fully restored one.

It's obviously a restoration candidate and not a roadworthy car. and it does need a lot of work. but I've described it fairly. so I don't feel bad in stipulating that I'd like a 5% deposit within 24 hours from the winning bidder either through PayPal or by bank transfer. nbsp;whichever's easiest for you. If you're unsure whether it will be too big a job for you please come and see the car first and have a good poke around it. It's in Weybridge. Surrey

Thanks for looking. if you have any questions. please give me a ring on 07951243425

The price includes delivery to anywhere in mainland England. If you need it further north. I can arrange that for very reasonable cost (Edinburgh for £250 for instance)
