numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Frost Beige exterior is in great driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. Both door open and shut nicely as do the hood and headlights. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The BF Goodrich Radial tires have about 90% tread left and are correctly sized 255/60R15. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some touch-ups and other small blemishes around the car that were too tiny to show up in the pictures. but nothing that is really noticeably from about ten feet away. This Corvette has no rust issues. The underside of the car is exceptionally clean and we have include many photos below with specific photos of the areas most prone to rust. The frame is solid around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield. which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Camel Leather interior in this Corvette is in spectacular original condition. The seats are in great condition and look as good in person as they do in the photos. There is just a small bit of wear in typical area where the driver gets in and out and a specific photo the area below. Please note that these are the original seats and skins. not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is good condition with no holes. tears. or stains. This includes the rear carpet. which is often neglected. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The door panels are in nice shape overall and the door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The jack and jack handle are still with the car. stored correctly behind the passenger seat. and pictured below. The original spare is still with the car and still has the nubs on it. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well. and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time. runs well. and idle smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. shifting through all the gears. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also. the engine compartment is beautifully clean. detailed. correct and complete as one can see in the photos. Even the upper ignition shielding. smog pump and original catalytic converter are still in place.

The horn works as do all the horn. exterior lights. wipers. power windows. and rear window defroster. The "check engine" light works properly. The blower works on all speeds. The a/c works and blows cold. One can observe the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also. the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. There complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Also. for any 1981 Corvette you may look at. be sure to verify that the "check engine" light is working correctly. The light should go on when the key is turned on as a confirmation that the light is working. then quickly go off when the car is started. A great number of these 1981 Corvettes have had the bulb removed to mask other problems. As one can observe in the video the "check engine" light on this car operates just as it should. going on with the car as a check and then going off when the engine is started.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1981 Corvette is in magnificent driver condition. Manual transmission Corvettes from this era are rare and command a huge premium over a car with an automatic transmission. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. especially with low mileage examples like this car. and as any buyer can see this Corvette is extremely correct. The originality. the very low miles. the 4-Speed transmission. the excellent overall condition. and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
