Welcome to the auction for my beloved pride and joy - my 1965 Mk1 Cortina.   I've just bought my first house and need to buy our bedroom and living room furniture so something has to go to fund it. and guess who lost.

Car Info

She's a 1965 4 door saloon that's been modernised underneath and made to look like a 1960's saloon racer on the outside.   She now wears Platinum Grey (Ford paint Code BU - an original paint option in 1965) over most of her body other than a matt black bonnet and the vinyl numeric decals you can see in the pictures.   Mechanically she's basically a 2. 0 Capri other than the engine itself which is a 1600 Pinto (unleaded conversion done!) running a Webber 38DGAS and 4 branch exhaust manifold for extra ooomph(!) but still reasonably economical.   She's in no way perfect but a great running project that's got a great patina. feel and a real pleasure to drive.

Full list of mechanical modifications are as follows:

1600 Pinto (Unleaded Conversion)
Webber 38DGAS
4 Branch Exhaust Manifold
Electric Fan (manual switch)
Electronic Ignition (Sierra Motorcraft Type)
Capri Steering Rack Conversion
Capri Front struts and lowered (corners like a dream)
M16 Callipers
MG Remote Type brake cylinder
Capri Cross Member
Type 9 5-Speed Box
2 Piece Prop
ATLAS Axle (from Capri)
Capri Leaf Springs (Lowering Blocks and poly bushed)
5. 5J Capri Steel (painted black and ALL tyres excellent yokos on front)
Capri Fuel Tank (Bigger than original Cortina)
Battery Relocated to boot
Sealed beam headlights replaced with H4 units
De-Bumpered

Full list of interior modifications:

4 Pod Dash and clocks (fuel. temp and oil pressure wired up - ammeter not wired up)
Mk2 Cortina Rev counter and speedo (rev counter not wired in yet!)
Original red rear vinyl seats. dash top and door cards painted black
Passenger seat removed
Seatbelts installed in the back for passenger safety
Recaro style driver's seat
Push button start

As you can see in the pictures she's got grey primer around the front and rear where touch ups have been made.   I have left like this as I think it ads to that 60's racer look! Her MOT has now expired and is currently SORN (was taxed up to 30/06/2013).   For the MOT she needs a new outrigger to be welded in on the drivers side as I think the drain got blocked and she got a little flaky.   I'm a fully paid up member of the MK1 Cortina Owners Club so have got the replacement outrigger ready to weld in (which will come with the car) and then she should fly through the MOT.   If I was keeping her I'd get this done over the winter and I'd look to put a new rear valance on her too.

As mentioned she's in no way perfect and has bubbling where you'd expect on a car that is used like it should be. like on a couple of the doors. the sills and the arches so come and have a look before you bid.   As I keep saying. it all adds to the 60's racer look I like.   She pulls very well and sounds GREAT.   She has a 2inch straight through system on her with is very loud but very low to the ground! Fine for driving on normal roads but not to Tesco where there are speed humps.   Last year she had a new servo fitted and I converted the front lucas sealed beam headlamps to H4 replacement items.   All lights including the interior light work as they should and key areas such as strut tops are excellent.

She's a running project that's fun to drive and has fantastic under body mechanicals that make her drive like a modern car.   I keep stating she's in no way perfect so come and have a look before you buy but you are getting a car that's had all the hard work done and just needs tarting up on the body if you want her to look fresh.  I've put a video on youtube here http://youtu. be/wqoGrGCPcEY if you would like to see and hear her running.

Reason For Sale

I've just bought my first house and now need to furnish it.   It breaks my heart to sell my Cortina but unfortunately having a bed and a sofa is currently more important. she says.   She is great fun and the buyer will certainly have a smile on their face when they take her for her first spin.

Viewing and Payment

I'm a civil engineer so work away on site during the week but can arrange viewings via my father if required.   I am at home on weekends however.   The winning bidder must pay £200 via payal within 48hrs of the end of the auction with the remaining payment in cash please.   As she has no tax or MOT at present she will need to be trailered away by the winning bidder.
