Restored. 20. 14 Kilometers/12. 85 miles from new!!! 1 of 357 L-Series Dino GTs manufactured. Documented by Massini. Clothed in dazzling Pininfarina-designed coachwork with body built by Scaglietti. the Dino first debuted in design concept form. known as the 206 S Speciale. at The Geneva Motor Show in March 1965. Several years later. it entered series production with the 206-specification. two-liter engine. After a short run of 150 cars. the 206 GT was updated in 1969 with a larger 2. 4-liter motor. which was a displacement that remained unchanged until the Dino's discontinuation in 1974. The Dino demonstrated impressive balance during tight handling. thanks to its near-even weight distribution. which was a dividend of the race-proven rear-mid engine placement. The 246 GT was ultimately built in three separate iterations. respectively known as the L. M and E-series. The L-series served as the direct successor to the 206 GT and was built from March of 1969 until October of 1970. During this time. only 357 total examples were built. and they are considered by connoisseurs as the “bridge” between the 206 and 246 GTs. The L-Series kept many detailed from the 206 including. the more purposeful 206-style seats and dash. center-lock knock-off wheels. a deeper passenger footwell with a folding footrest. a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel and numerous other small distinctions. More significantly. the L-series cars featured lightweight alloy doors and decklids whereas the later M- and E-series cars used heavier all-steel bodies. This desirable late-production L-series Dino 246 was completed at the factory. October 1970 and delivered to official Swiss Ferrari importer SAVAF. Geneva. Switzerland. It is not known exactly when. but this Dino made its way to the USA and State of Texas from Switzerland at some point in the 1970s. During this ownership. the Dino dropped a valve and the car was put aside in dry storage. remaining unrepaired. Subsequently. it was sold to another person who started the repair. but which was not completed. Having sat in dry storage and rust free since the 1980s. this Dino was purchased from Texan ownership by well-known Ferrari parts supplier and Dino enthusiast. Dennis McCann. Ohio. USA. Purchased in 2012 by its previous owner. this L-Series Dino was treated a complete and thorough restoration down to its tub and with absolute attention to detail to make this Dino one of the best of its kind. No expense has been spared in this restoration. In an effort to keep this car original as possible spare parts were bought from Dennis McCann before he sold his business with more the $30k spent on parts and another $30k spent with Superformance in the U. K. The mechanicals including complete engine. gearbox. suspension. brakes were rebuilt at a cost of over $100k alone. Well in excess of $150k was spent on cosmetic and interior (non-original Daytona style seat inserts were chosen. these are easily returned to standard). correct Scaglietti stampings appear on trim pieces. door panels as well as being stamped into most of the chrome trim. Original glass. all original bolts and hardware were removed. catalogued and replaced. All original motors and electrics were rebuilt and a new wiring harness using the original as a pattern fabricated and installed. All work has been performed by well-known West Coast Ferrari/Italian car specialists. restoration invoices and photos are available for all work performed. The “L” model 246 is the most collectable of the 246 GT-246 GTS series having been made in the most limited numbers.
