1980 Pontiac Turbo TransAm Indy 500 and Daytona 500 Pace Car "No Reserve" with T-Tops                                 I recently purchased this 1980 Pontiac Turbo TransAm Indy Pace Car edition from a gentleman right here in Kenosha. Wisconsin.  He included the Pontiac Historical Society documents that prove this is an authentic 1980 Turbo-TransAm Official Indy Pace Car edition and not just a 1980 TransAm that was cloned into a Pace car.  This car was purchased new at Frank Brown Pontiac. Inc. in Lubbock. Texas on April 6th. 1980.  I have no idea how long this TransAm has been in the Midwest. but it did originate in Texas. If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures.
These cars are escalating in value with each passing year. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to find any Indianapolis 500 Indy Pace Car from any year to restore. This was the very first Indianapolis 500 Pace car that was also used as the Daytona 500 Pace car in the same year. I am selling this rare piece of Indy and Daytona famed TransAm as needing a complete restoration where every part and panel will need to be repaired or restored in order to bring this car back to its former glory. I will explain everything I found out from the previous owner at the point of purchase. The odometer has just rolled over once and the current odometer reading is accurate and original. If you are looking to restore a TransAm you may as well choose a rare TransAm with Mirrored Glass T-Tops and rear window louvers.
The prior owner made this purchase about four years ago with the intention of restoring this rare gem. but he had three other TransAm's. I ended up buying this one and his 1978 Red TransAm in a package deal. I don't know all that much about TransAm's. but I was told both the cars I purchased have the original engines. I've been a muscle car enthusiast for over 40 years. and they both surely look all original to me.  This gentleman said he replaced all four calipers and brake pads on this Pace Car. but that was as far as he got with his restoration intentions. The four wheel disc brakes do stop the car well. but the brake light is on. He put a new battery in this Turbo-TransAm and it starts right up. I drove this car about four miles from his apartment complex to my home and around the corner to take the pictures for this auction without any issues. I don't know how fast these Turbo TransAm's are supposed to be. but the engine does sound strong with no ticks or knocks. I just know they look cool and remember every guy wanted one when I was younger. After all what guy doesn't want a TransAm? The winning bidder will most likely have endless thumbs up wherever they drive. You should have an outgoing personality to drive a car like this. because everywhere you go people will be attracted to you like a magnet.
This is a very highly optioned TransAm that came ordered with Power Steering. Power Four Wheel Disc Brakes. Power Windows. Power Door Locks. Power Trunk Release. Tilt Steering Wheel. Electric Rear Defogger. Engine Block Heater. Cruise Control. Radial Tuned Suspension. Air Conditioning. Mirrored T-Tops. Rear Window Louvers. and the best option of all being a Turbo-TransAm Official Pace Car. The T-Tops have not leaked while I've owned the car. The factory air conditioning looks to be mostly complete. but I'm sure it will need to be gone through. and need a charge of Freon to blow ice cold.  This Turbo-TransAm does still have the original factory sway bars and the positive traction posi-rear-end.        From what I can see most of the original factory parts are still in place. He said this is the original paint. but several areas on the car were touched up with white spray to save the panels that were starting to show wear. The Screaming Fire Chicken was partially removed. but those replacement decals can be found at Phoenix Graphics for a reasonable price. I do have a pair of new old stock original Indianapolis Motor Speedway wing decals that go under the TransAm decals on the front fenders. I couldn't see applying them on this car until the fresh set of Pace Car decals are applied after this car is freshly painted. Those will be included in this sale for the winning bidder. I feel all of the original body panels can be used in the restoration. The dash could use a new replacement pad. and the headliner will need to be replaced. although all the original headliner components that came off the car are included.  The front seats are showing wear. so a new pair of imitation sheepskin covers were placed on the bucket seats. The carpet looks to be newer and has a set of four brand new gray carpeted floor mats.  This TransAm has the original interior and does show wear. but is still in relatively decent condition as evident from the pictures. All four of the original alloy sport wheels are in good condition. but the white paint has worn off over the years. I prefer the aluminum look. so I would leave them the way they are. There is an aftermarket detachable face plate AM/FM CD player. but the faceplate is missing. I didn't see any evidence of this car ever being involved in any accidents. The original Fisher T-Top covers are included inside the trunk. Those are typically long gone after all these years. I'm selling this TransAm with an open. clean. and clear title that was issued in the State of Wisconsin. The snow will be cleared and this Turbo-TransAm will blast right up the hill and be able to be easily loaded on a trailer next door around the corner. The title and PHS documents will be sent by U. S. Priority mail to the winning bidder the moment the funds are clear or kept with the TransAm for pick-up.
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1980 Pontiac TransAm Indy Pace Car Special Edition with the Turbo 4. 9 Liter engine and air conditioning listed at $60. 00 in high condition. which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored. or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
The average condition value is $43. 50 which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint. trim. and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out.  They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer!
Nada has the lowest condition value at $19. 25 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration. but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car. but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.       The numbers don't lie! This True Turbo-TransAm "Indy Pace Car Edition" is a very valuable automobile if restored properly! These second generation 1970-81 TransAm's have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. I think for whatever the final bid amount ends up being will be far less than the worth of the amount of valuable parts on this Turbo-TransAm. What you see is exactly what you get! This is a great car for a father and son project to bond as a family unit. Why not make your money work for you while your son learns how to work on cars. Any money that is invested into this car will increase the value immensely. This is a great car to restore and show up at your class reunion to prove how cool you still are. I tried to describe all of the pertinent information. so any potential bidder can make the most informed decision possible before placing their bid. If there is anything else you feel may have been missed. please ask any questions you like.  All questions will all be answered in explicit detail in a timely fashion. This Cool Pontiac Historical Society Documented 1980 Pontiac Indy Pace Car Turbo-TransAm Edition is being offered FOR THE LAST TIME at "No Reserve" on this 5-day auction and WILL SELL Sunday evening at 8:00pm Eastern time. 7:00pm Central time. and 5:00pm Pacific time to the highest bidder. The $2000 PayPal deposit is required within 24 hours. and the balance wire transferred within 72 hours.  A seller takes a great deal of time to set up a proficient auction. so please have all of your funds in order if you intend on winning this rare bird. I know all sellers will agree that they want all potential winning bidders to think long and hard before they click that button. Please take your time and scrutinize the pictures and the description to make absolutely certain that this Rare Turbo-TransAm is for you. This is a prime opportunity to pick up your sweet dream muscle car and with a little elbow grease you can be the main attraction in your neighborhood for many years to come. Thank You for taking the time to read and view my auction!   Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!
I tried to describe everything to the best of my ability. The condition of this 37-year old classic muscle car sports car is viewed through my opinion and should be construed as subjective as is the case with all pre-owned vehicles. It is to be assumed that all used vehicles have some degree of wear and tear. Therefore. I assume no responsibility for any errors in my description. I try to be as accurate as possible. but it is recommended that any potential buyer inspect this vehicle in Kenosha. Wisconsin prior to the end of the auction if they so desire.  This "Turbo-TransAm Pace Car Edition" is being sold as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied. Please understand that no oral statements made concerning this sale will constitute any type of warranty. Thank you!
