The Carrera 2. 7 RS is highly regarded by collectors and
considered by many to be the greatest Porsche 911 ever produced. RS
stood for Rennsport meaning race sport in English. The Carrera name
was reintroduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named
after Porsche's class victories in the Carrera Panamericana road
races in Mexico during the 1950's. The RS was built as a
homologation car to allow Porsche to enter a racing series that
demanded that a certain minimum number of production cars were
made. Compared with a standard 911S. the Carrera 2. 7 RS had a
larger engine with a displacement of 2687cc developing 210 hp with
mechanical fuel injection. revised and stiffened suspension. a
'ducktail' rear spoiler. larger brakes. wider rear wheels and rear
wings.

Leaving the factory in 1991. this 964 Carrera 2 was delivered to
its first owner with many optional extras. With its engine evolved
to the 3. 6 litre version and coupled to the Tiptronic gearbox. it
also benefitted from air-conditioning. onboard trip computer and
cruise control. It then spent the next 22 years as a very well kept
car backed up by a full and up-to-date service history. In the last
few years it has benefitted from a full engine rebuild to eliminate
the renowned oil leak problems associated with the 964 and the
fitment of a full set of sport height-adjustable coil-over
suspension kit. This year. the car has undergone a full backdate
conversion by 911 Rennsport to transform it to 1973 Carrera RS
specification. This has included genuine steel front wings with
backdate extensions. Early front lamps with chrome headlamp rims. br/>lightweight 1973 long bonnet and correct lightweight front and rear
bumpers. A rear light conversion to 73 specification along with the
all important lightweight RS ducktail are also present. To finish
off the detail. door frames and window trims have been polished and
door handles correctly chrome plated.

Now sitting on a set of genuine Porsche Fuchs alloys and the
interior backdated to match with period-style bucket seats and a
Momo Prototipo steering wheel. it is truly difficult to tell this
was ever a 964 especially as it is now also finished in the correct
1973 Porsche colour code Gulf Blue with the correct contrasting
black RS decal set.

Interested parties should note that the number plate
showing is to be retained and another age-related plate issued
instead.
