vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this beautiful. completely numbers matching. 1968 Corvette Convertible with the high performance L79 327ci 350hp engine and both tops including a black vinyl hardtop. This Corvette has been treated to a complete mechanical and cosmetic "nut and bolt" frame off restoration in 2014. There are photos documenting the restoration and receipts totaling over $57. 00. The car was literally taken down to the bare frame and completely rebuilt with a new paint. interior. soft-top. engine rebuild. suspension rebuild. etc.

This Corvette looks absolutely stunning. runs terrifically. and is an awesome driver that is ready to be enjoyed. Included with the car is a professional appraisal completed on the car. The appraiser valued the car at $55. 00. There is no way a similar Corvette could be built or restored for anything near our asking price. Please peruse all of the photos. video. numbers. and other information below to get a true sense of how exceptionally nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note. this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the Corvette. just give us a call.

numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

item number description* VIN 194678S423847 The first digit. "1. quot; indicates the Chevrolet division of GM. The "94" is the series. V8 Corvette. The "67" is the body style. convertible. The sixth digit. "8. quot; indicates the model year. 1968. The "S" is the plant where the car was produced. St. Louis. The last five digits are a sequence number so this is the 23. 47th Corvette made for 1968. Body Build Date K27 "K" corresponds to June. and the "27" is the twenty-seventh day of the month meaning this car has a body build date of June 27. 1968. Engine Code V06I8 "V" means the engine was build in the Flint. MI plant.   The "06" is the sixth month of year and the "I8" is the eighteenth day of the month meaning the engine was assembled on June 18. 1968. . Suffix Code HT This means the motor was intended for an L79 350hp application with a manual transmission and without a/c and ps. which is correct for this car. Engine VIN Stamping 423847 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN. 423847. are stamped on the engine pad meaning this engine is original to this car.    Engine Block Casting Number 3974678 The engine block has the correct 3914678 casting number. Engine Block Casting Date F 30 9 "F" is June. The "15" is the fifteenth day of the month. and the "8" is the last digit of the calendar year so the engine block was cast on June 15. 1968. Left Cylinder Head Casting # 3917291 The left cylinder head has the correct 3917297 casting number for a 1968 L79 Corvette. Left Cylinder Head Casting Date E 24 8 "E" is May. "24" is the twenty-fourth day of the month. and "8" is the last digit of the calendar year so the cylinder head was cast on May 24. 1968. This is correct as it predates the assemble date of the engine. Right Cylinder Head Casting # 3917297 The right cylinder head has the correct 3917297 casting number for a 1968 L79 Corvette. Right Cylinder Head Casting Date F 10 8 "F" is June. "10" is the tenth day of the month. and "8" is the last digit of the calendar year so the cylinder head was cast on June 10. 1968. This is correct as it predates the assemble date of the engine. Transmission Main Case 3925660 The main case of the transmission has the correct 3925660 casting number. Transmission Side Cover Casting # 3884685 The side cover of the transmission has the correct 3884685 casting number. Transmission Tail Housing 3857584 The tail housing of the transmission has the correct 3957584 casting number.
Transmission Date Code P8H12 The "P" means that this is a 4-speed Muncie.  The "8" is the model year. The "H" is the month code indicating June and the "12" is the day of the month.   So this transmission is dated June 12. 1968. Transmission VIN Stamping 423847 The last 6 digits of the car's VIN. 423847. are stamped on the main case meaning this transmission is original to this car.    Clutch Housing Casting Number 3858405 The clutch housing is correct with a 3858405 casting number. Intake Manifold Casting Number 3927184 The intake manifold has a 3927184 casting number.  This the intake was used on 1969 350hp Corvette applications. but since it is dated correctly and this is such a late 1968 it is very reasonable this intake was installed at the factory. Intake Manifold Casting Date F 3 8 "F" is June. The "3" is the third day of the month. and the "8" is the last digit of the calendar year so the intake manifold was cast on June 3. 1968. Surge Tank 3016340 The original aluminum Harrison surge tank has the correct 3016340 stamping. Surge Tank Date Code 68E "68" is 1968 and "E" represents May so the surge tank is dated May of 1968.

condition

Exterior

The Rally Red exterior is in beautiful condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. The chrome on the car was all refinished with the car was restored and shows very well. The wheels and center caps are in excellent condition with a nice finish and no curb rash. The original style Firestone Wide Oval Red Line tires look amazing on the car and are virtually brand new. They are the period correct bias ply construction. which is noticeable on the road when compared to radials. There are a few small blemishes and rock chips that have been touched up. but nothing that is noticeable from five feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car. this Corvette is totally solid and nearly as clean underneath as it is on top.

The Stingray looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Red interior of the Corvette looks absolutely superb. The seats look virtually brand new with no split seems. rips. or signs of wear. The carpet is also in like-new condition with no tears. holes. or stains. This included the rear carpet which is often neglected. The dash and console are in terrific condition with no fading or sun damage. The radio sounds great and is a modern unit with hookups to connect to a phone. Most importantly it is a Corvette specific unit made for this car do the dash was not cut or modified for the installation. The door panels are in great condition with no cracks or wear. The soft-top was replaced when the car was restored and looks virtually brand new. The rear window is not scratched or foggy at all. The hardtop looks great. The fit of both tops and the side windows is not great and the tops can be difficult to put on and off. This car has not been smoked in and there is no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The engine was rebuilt during the restoration and the car has been used sparingly since. The car starts right away every time. runs well. and idles well. The car drives terrifically. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 65mph. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast with the the L79 350hp engine. Also. the engine compartment is beautifully clean. detailed. and correct as one can see in the photos.

The horn works as do all the exterior lights. wipers. and all gauges (with the obvious exception of the clock). The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works correctly from both their respective switches on the dash and the override switches. The entire operation from both switches can be viewed in the video below. The blower for the heater works only on high. Some of the fiber optics system works. As stated above. this car has the original style red-line bias ply tires. so it will not drive like a car on modern radials and you experience a bit of the floating feeling on the highway. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the 4-Speed. the extra power fro the L79. and the top down on a beautiful day.

A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system. We consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights. headlights. indicators. tail lights. etc. . are working and to make the driver aware of a a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing. does any work to the center console. or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable. that indicator no longer works. As one can image. over time this is very common.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1968 Corvette is in marvelous condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. especially with rare and desirable models like this L79. and as one can see above this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN and date stamps on the engine block and the transmission. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector.

The originality. matching numbers. frame off restoration. and beautiful color combination make this car especially important and difficult to duplicate. There is no way someone could restore a 1968 Corvette to this level of quality for anywhere near our asking price. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please email or call with any questions.
