1973 Porsche 914 -- for sale
Current customer rating: (136 votes ) based onFor sale in our Milwaukee Showroom is a stunning. numbers-matching 1973 Porsche 914. Unique by any standards. there are not many of these Porsches that have lived to see the 2000s. as their low curb weight and balanced performance made them the perfect vehicle for autocross or the track. There are very few of these left in original condition. or even close to it. and we are lucky enough to feature one.
Originally intended to be both a product of Volkswagen and Porsche. with the 914/4 (4-cylinder model) being marketed as a Volkswagen and the 914/6 (6-cylinder model) being marketed as a Porsche. The plan fell through. however. with the death of Volkswagen’s chairman Heinz Nordhoff. His successor. Kurt Lotz. was not part of the Porsche legacy. so the verbal agreement between the two automotive manufacturers fell apart. leaving Porsche alone in its venture and thus raising the cost of the 914/6 significantly. The increase in price meant poor sales numbers for 914/6. but the lower price tag of the 914/4 was a recipe for success. even with the Big Three in Detroit fighting tooth and nail in the horsepower race that was ensuing. The 914 was a breath of fresh air.
By 1973. the 914/6 had been discontinued after a production run of only 3. 32 and the engine was replaced with a fuel-injected version of the 2. 0L Volkswagen Type 4 engine. rated at 99 bhp. While the power numbers are not incredibly impressive. factor in the low weight of just over 2. 00 lbs. and this beauty gets up and goes. The 5-speed manual transmission is fitting for such a small. nimble. German sports car and gives you precise control over the vehicle. while still remaining easy to drive. The 914 also features four-wheel disc brakes and a fully independent suspension. both of which were incredibly rare options for vehicles of this era.
If you’re looking to own a rare piece of automotive history that will almost certainly be a one-of-a-kind at any car show. cars and coffee. or cruise night. then this 1973 Porsche 914 is just for you. You can see more pictures of the vehicle and a video of it running and driving at .
