I. D V8 Cobra Jet Transmission: 4- Speed Manual Vehicle Description:

Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a piece of Mustang history: a 1968 Ford Mustang GT500KR Convertible. It was in the Shelby Heritage Center in Las Vegas Nevada the last two years on display. One of only 518 GT500KR Convertibles ever made. it's clear why they referred to this Mustang as the "King of the Road". Crammed under the hood is a 428 CID Cobra Jet V8 which Ford claimed at 335 Horsepower. It's now well known that that was a rather deflated number. and actual horsepower was closer to 400. Even the hood itself was special on these cars; fiberglass with functional scoops and heat extractors. This hood fit into the KR specific lengthened front end to make it unmistakable among standard Mustangs. This particular example is finished in Candy Apple Red with white rocker stripes which is a beautiful look. With the top down. it still looks aggressive especially with the roll bar. Interior space is rather luxurious compared to basic Mustangs. Tan colored vinyl upholstery looks great against the wood grain dash. You'll notice a famous signature on the glove box door: Carroll Shelby. The under hood presentation is beautiful. and keeps things factory in appearance down to the battery and radiator tags. The entire car was restored in 2009 with emphasis on functionality and reliability. Many pieces of unique documentation are available to back up the history of the vehicle. It's been with the same family since 1978. with knowledge of each owner since new. This one sold new out of Jack Loftus Ford. in Hinsdale IL. With a Shelby Serial number of 02318. it's believed to be one of the first 10 cars made in '68. This truly is a piece of Mustang history. Shelby history. and automotive history in general. This stunning 1968 Ford Mustang GT500KR can be seen at or in our St. Louis showroom. Please direct inquiries to: 618-271-3000 or stl@gatewayclassiccars. com.
