1957 Jaguar Other for sale
Truly a car that is all about the story with extensive documentation back to the initial purchase. This is the best documented car I have ever owned.
Runs perfect. shifts and stops perfect.
Show car - Restored to the highest standards. Original owner passed the Jag onto his son. The restoration was done approximately 10 years ago professionally. I am the third owner if you count the son as the second. The car is currently part of a collection and is regularly exercised and all maintenance items have been attended to.
Refinished wood. leather interior fitted to original specifications. carpet replaced (Wilton wool). replaced headliner. Painted in original color with glass out and body stripped of all trim and paint. replaced windshield and seal. replaced rear window seal. new door seals. New tires. new fuel pump this year. carburettors rebuilt this year. New rings around 10 years ago. spark plug wires. cap rotor and points. bearings and polished cams/crank at the same time. fully serviced. freshly rebuilt generator. rebuilt regulator. this year re-cored radiator. new stainless exhaust. new brake booster. new tachometer drive. new speedometer cable. new water pump. new coolant hoses. and brand new SU fuel pump. All parts used were always factory parts. nothing aftermarket.
Completely serviced and drives flawlessly. Starts after only 1-2 seconds of cranking like new. synchros are perfect. shifts smooth. excellent acceleration and handling. This is not a slow car and a wonderful experience to drive.
Only issues are the fuel gauge is optimistic by 1/4 tank. the speedometer is slow to respond to changes in speed and the clock is non operational which I know the last two could be mended by partaking in a trip to NoHo Speedometer and Clock. these issues I have left alone as I took care of the more pressing problems and they are not particularly bothersome. I own an auto repair shop specializing in restoration of vintage euro cars. and I personally performed all repairs on this car.
This was never a rusty car. it has no rust and it has no filler. There are no patch panels either. The body is 100% original steel as is the floor pan.
The history on this particular car is very interesting. It was originally purchased at the jaguar factory in England for $3845. 00 or 1858. 00pds. I still have the original British licence plate and all documentation including approximately 20 letters of correspondence between the original owner and the factory for parts up to 1975. Also with the car are extensive service invoices from the early sixties through a few years ago. The original owner was in the employ of the CIA in early 57' and was sent to the UK for a six month stint. He flew in and went straight to the factory in Coventry to pick up the car he had ordered. The car was this exact 1957 MK1 in the exact colors and spec of the brochure. which is also included and had been underlined and written on by him. He must have been comparing models. Of particular interest was the fuel consumption and tank capacity apparently as well as the tire size and ground clearance. The specification was SE package. Leather. 2. 4. Manual and Left hand drive. He must have expected to send the car back to the US when he was finished with his work in the country. I know nothing about his mission in the country. only what is documented here and that he left the country before the car did. The car was stored near the Docks of Southhampton at the British Railways garage under some company name accumulating a bill around 200pds. It was eventually sent back to the US on the SS United States under a different name then licensed in the US under his. He kept this car until his passing in the early nineties and from reading his correspondence with the factory maintained the car to a standard second to none.
This is a real life "Man From U. N. C. L. E. " car. It drives out wonderfully. starts with a flip of the key and everything works as expected. There will be no disappointments with this car.
