A foreword: Feel free to contact me for more pictures of the car. I have some of the paint meter readings to confirm the factory thickness. Also. if you must consult with your significant other for a purchase of this car. please do so before bidding. If you intend to register the car in California it will not be cheap. please inquire before bidding. This gem is one of very few that have been imported to the USA. the only one I know of. It's big brother the Evo 2 is commanding prices above $150k with a lot of buyers paying even more for the museum quality cars. This car runs excellent and has a very smooth transmission. doesn't leak a drop of oil and always starts. Ebay wouldn't accept the VIN for this car. it is WDB2010361F597207.
This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190e 2. 5-16 Evolution is one of 502 Evo I models produced for DTM homologation. and one of 60 produced with the AMG Power Pack which was good for an extra 22 horsepower over a stock Evo 1. This is an 82k kilometre (~51k mile) example that remains mechanically stock with special EVO features present. though the adjustable ride height has been converted to a more conventional suspension setup.
This car was originally sold in Tokyo and was imported from Japan earlier this year by myself.
The Evolution 1 debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1989. It was based on the 190E 2. 5-16 with several distinguishing exterior features including revised front and rear valences. larger rear wing. and flared fenders.

The EVO was lowered by 19mm compared to the standard 2. 5-16 and had a 14mm wider track in front and a 24 mm wider track in the rear. All four tires are new Continental ExtremeContact DWs.

Paint is believed to be original throughout and all panels show fewer than 5 mils of thickness on a paint gauge according to the seller. A touched up area is noted on the passenger's side trunk edge. A small removable piece is said to be missing from the wing. and there is a crack on the inner part of the front wheel arch extension where it meets the fender liner. The headlights have been upgraded with HID lighting.

The interior remains largely standard with the additions of wood interior trim and an aftermarket steering wheel and stereo. Leather upholstery shows well with some wear present on the driver's outer bolster. and the fitted AMG steering wheel is a cool period piece. The VDO lap timer is not working correctly. but all other interior features are said to work as they should. Note the dogleg 5-speed.

The engine was altered from the standard 2. 5-16 with different capacity. bore and stroke. and a higher rev limit. The AMG power pack gave the Cosworth-developed engine more aggressive camshafts. larger throttle body. changes to the intake. and an AMG exhaust.

Those modifications. in conjunction with more aggressive air/fuel mapping netted an additional 22 horsepower over the standard Evolution I. or 224 horsepower and 181 lb. ft. of torque. The Power Pack became standard on the Evolution II.

AMG-branded twin tip exhaust protrudes from under the rear valence. The self leveling suspension has been eliminated and replaced with Quantum shocks and conventional springs at all four corners. The car is sold with minimal records and the owners manual which came with the car when imported from Japan. It is sold with a clean South Dakota title.
