numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Dark Blue exterior is in decent driver condition. As one can see in the photos. the finish has fine gloss and smooth finish. The car basically looks in person as it does in the photos. The chrome and other bright work shows well overall. Both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels are in good condition with a nice finish and the center caps are clean and looks great. The red line tires look amazing on the car and were installed less than a month ago so they are basically brand new. They are the period correct bias ply construction. which is noticeable on the road when compared to radials. There are some touch-ups and other small imperfections around the car that are visible in the photo. Most notable touch-ups are the area around the rear decklid on the right and the right headlight. The frame and everything else on the car is completely solid. I encourage you to closely inspect the many underside photos to see how truly clean the car is.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Sting Ray. both side windows. the windshield. and even both vent windows are all date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of May 18. 1966 (I18). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Black interior of the Corvette is in great condition. The seats look just as good in person just as they do in the photos with no excessive wear or split seams. There is one small spot on the driver's seat in the typical area on the edge. The carpet is in good condition as well with no rips or holes. This includes the rear carpet. which is often neglected. The radio is original and works well. The dash is in nice shape with no fading. The door panels are in good shape overall. These Corvette interiors are not known to wear well over time and the nice condition of this interior is a testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in excellent mechanical condition. According to the previous owner the engine was recently rebuilt. It starts right away every time. idles well. runs well. and makes great oil pressure. The car is a great driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. The mechanics and the way this Corvette runs and drives are some of its strongest points. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. shifting through all the gears. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving. The car runs cool and does not overheat. The transmission shifts well. does not pop out of gear. and the Hurst shifter is tight. The clutch feels good. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other; it appears that some of the brake parts have recently been replaced. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. especially with the L79 high performance engine. Also. the engine compartment is clean. detailed. and correct with all of the upper and lower ignition shielding as one can see in the photos.

The horn works as do all the exterior lights. interior lights. indicators. and parking brake. Both headlights go up and down properly and with no binding the mechanism. which is a very common problem on this era Corvette. Their complete operation can be viewed in the video below. Even the "light" indictor on the dash works correctly when you turn the lights on without raising them. The blower for the heater works on all settings. Also. the vent selector works properly and blows air from defroster and heater vents correctly. The gas gauge. odometer. and obviously the clock do not work. This Corvette and has been lovingly cared for over the years. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the 4-speed transmission and the top down on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1966 Corvette is in excellent driver condition. Special high performance models like this L79 327ci 350hp Sting Ray are much more valuable and desirable than the standard models. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see above this car is very original and correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block. suffix code. engine assembly date. transmission date. and transmission VIN stamp. We have this Corvette priced to sell. Mid-year (C2) Corvettes are. and will continue to be. the most collectable and desirable Corvette generation. Of the mid-years the 1965-67 models always draw a premium and drive so much better due the 4 wheel disk brakes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is very apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
