PORSCHE 1987 911 CARRERA 3.2 SUPERSPORT G50 COUPE. GENUINE FACTORY 491 CAR. for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 422 votes

This auction is for my 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3. 2 Supersport that has the G50 gearbox fitted and only covered 92. 00 miles from new.

This car has never had any welding/repairs to the bodywork or any major engine work carried out on it whatsoever making it one of those rare and still original Porsche 911s that are so sought after today.  How many original ones are there left today I wonder?

I am sure the vast majority of people will know that the Porsche 911 Carrera 3. 2 Supersport is a relatively rare factory built Porsche built in small numbers with the 491 option code. This option code meant that these cars were built with the same wide turbo bodies. brakes and suspension that were used when building the Porsche 930 turbo cars. The only thing that was missing was the turbo engine itself.

It is in superb condition throughout with nearly every MOT certificate and a full service history having 14 stamps in the service booklet that are all official Porsche stamps apart from one. The last full service the car had was in 2012 and was carried out by a previous owner who is a mechanic and carried out his own servicing. This service has not been stamped in the service book but I can give you his tel. no. if you would like to check this with him yourself.

Please note that this is a GENUINE FACTORY SUPERSPORT COUPE (Option code 491) and still has the option code sticker on the underside of the boot lid and in the service manual.

Below is a list of the factory options that are listen on the option code sticker and came with the car when new.

The only reason I am selling this superb car is for medical reasons.

I shall begin by outlining the cars history.

All of the previous 9 owners are listed in the cars history file.

This car was registered on the 05/06/1987 by Glen Henderson Motors Ltd of Glasgow who were an official Porsche agent and used it as their demonstrator vehicle. They kept the 911 for a few months before selling it to a Mr Dunbar who also lived in Glasgow. A few years later the car again changed hands to a Mr Morris who lived in Stirling. The car stayed in Scotland up until 1997 and changed hands a couple more times. The total mileage covered up until then was 38. 00 miles so still a very low mileage car.

In 1997 the car moved south to Milton Keynes and on to its sixth owner. Since 1997 the car has had a further four owners. including myself.

A previous owner kept the car in an air chamber for several years when not in use.

From 1997 up until 2003 the car had covered a total of 85. 00 miles so in the last ten years the car has covered less than 8. 00 miles but still had regular services. There are ten SORN certificates in the history file that show that between 2004 and the present time the car was taken off of the road in the winter months. There is also a nice collection of previous old tax discs from 2002 - 2013 that are again in the history file.

The car still has the original brown Porsche factory wallet that came with the car when new and still has all of the booklets and other information that was supplied by Porsche to the then new owner. This includes the Porsche guarantee and maintenance booklet. the original 911 Turbo/ 911 Carrera drivers manual. the instruction and warranty booklet for the Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46 radio cassette player (this is still in the car and works perfectly). plus all of the other supplements that were supplied at the time. Even the original breakdown certificate that was supplied when new is still in there.

This car still retains the original tool kit and has a FULL set of tools that are all in excellent condition. Even the original pack of fuses and emergency sun roof crank are still in there along with the tyre pressure gauge in its original wallet.

The Porsche tyre gauge is complete and works just at it should. The tabs on the black casing are still intact also.

As can be seen from the above this car still has all of the nice original items that it would have had when it left the factory which is so very rare these days.

Now on to the car itself

Bodywork

As can be seen from the above pictures the bodywork is in really lovely condition and retains the original Grand Prix white colour that it left the factory with. As previously mentioned the car has NEVER had any body repairs carried out on it and appears to have been waxoiled/undersealed from new and this has probably been added to over the years to keep it free from corrosion. The underside of the car is in really great condition with no corrosion. dents or marks to the floor pan at all and looks to have been regularly undersealed to keep any moisture out. all The insides of the wheel arches have again been undersealed and waxoiled and are all in perfect condition. The inner wings are in superb condition with not a sign of any corrosion.

The front and rear bumbers were removed a couple of years ago by a previous owner and these were undersealed and waxoiled before being put back on to the car. At the same time the four rubber bumper bellows were replaced with original Porsche items. The rear overiders are as new and do not have any rusted mounting bolts or any rusting on the number plate light fixing area at all.

All of the exterior body rubber mouldings are in very good condition and have not deteriorated at all.

The rear spoiler also known as the "whale tail" on these cars is in perfect condition with no rusted fixing studs at all which as any Porsche owner will tell you is very unusual.

(There is a very small bubble that is just showing under the rear windscreen rubber and if I were keeping the car I would have this attended to in the near future but it is nothing serious at present)

I have included a picture of the boot area. with the carpets removed. nbsp;to show just how clean and corrosion free this area also is. No repairs to the battery tray. front shock mount areas at all and absolutely none needed either. The spare wheel is unused and still retains the original brown label that is attached to it. All of the other stickers/labels are also still in place as can be seen. The car came from the factory with the heavy duty black boot carpet and is listed as one of the options on the factory options sticker as still like new condition.

Engine. Gearbox. Exhaust and running gear

Apart from the general servicing that has regularly been carried out on the engine (All genuine Porsche parts) it has not had any other major work carried out on it at all nor does it need any. The engine pulls VERY strongly in all gears. does not make any untoward noises at all. has perfect oil pressure at all speeds. including idle. the temperature is as it should be and does not leak one drop of oil.

Some people say that an engine approaching 100. 00 miles should really be needing at the very least a top end overhaul but speak to Porsche themselves and they will tell you that this is not true and depends on how the car has been driven in the past. oil changes etc. Why strip an engine down if it does not need it and apart from not needing it then the car will also have lost some of its originality. Nearly all Porsche 911 air cooled engines of this era smoke a little on start up after they have been stood around for a while and this car is no exception but within a minute or so it clears as appears to be the norm with these cars.

The engine bay and the engine itself had for many years been coated in a waxoil that has kept this area in as new condition. I wanted to get this area back to how it would have looked when new so all I did was remove the waxoil and underneath all of that was a really clean engine as I hope you can see in the picture. One item that I did attend to was the cooling fan. I removed the fan and gave it a good clean. I then painted the centre hub and polished the fan blades. Although not a 100% factory finish I think it compliments the lovely clean engine and engine bay very well.  The engine tinwork is all in place and in really good condition.

This car has the highly desirable G50 5 speed gearbox fitted to it and the gear changes are effortless with no crunching or missed gears taking place at all. The hydraulic clutch is working as it should do and has a nice light feel when gear changing.

The heat exchangers and exhaust back box are in stainless steel and are all in excellent condition having not been on the car for that long.

This Supersport originally came with the green Bilstein shock absorbers but a recent previous owner had changed these shock absorbers for the heavy duty Boge units that were specifically designed for just the Porsche 930 turbo and Supersport cars. The ride in the car with these updated shock absorbers really makes a difference and it handles so precise on any road surface.

Wheels and tyres

The wheels are the original Fuch wheels that came with the car and are 7 x 16" and 9 x 16" wheels that were fitted to all of the Supersport cars.  These wheels have been sent to a professional wheel restorer and the rims have been diamond cut and the centres powder coated in white to match the body then lacquered for a perfect finish. Four new genuine Porsche wheel centre caps were also fitted at the same time.

All four wheels are in perfect condition and have no damage to them whatsoever.

The front tyres are Pirelli P6000 and both have 8mm of tread remaining.

The rear tyres are Continental Contisportcontact and both have 6. 5mm of tread remaining.

All four tyres are in perfect condition with no puncture repairs or any damage to them at all.

Interior

The car has a full black leather interior that is in lovely condition with not one rip or tear to be seen anywhere. The front full leather seats with white piping to the edges are the electric comfort seats that have the eight way electrical adjustment fitted within them. There is very slight wear on the drivers side white piping but not on the bolster at all. The interior door handles have the Porsche crest on them and add a nice touch to the interior. The door cards and the rear parcel shelf still retain the original speakers that came with the car. The door bins. dash. headlining. steering wheel. rear seat backs and squabs etc are again all in excellent original condition and show no signs of any real wear. The black carpets are not worn at all and the front over mats have the Porsche crest embroided on them. Rear seat belts are fitted. A new genuine Porsche G50 gear knob has recently been fitted as the original had some marks on it. The original Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46 radio cassette player has never been removed from the car and still works perfectly and has the original manual in the Porsche wallet as well.

Electrics

The car came from the factory with central locking installed. this still works perfectly. A top quality Thatcham immobiliser/alarm system has also been fitted and the car now locks and arms itself via the key fob. Two sets of keys and key fobs are with the car.

The car has electric windows. sunroof. mirrors and all of these work effortlessly and just as they should.

The auto heat system fitted between the seats works as it should along with the front fresh air blower which still has all three speeds working.

All of the gauges work perfectly. including the clock. nbsp;with the exception of the oil level gauge which for some reason occasionally flickers until the car reaches its normal temperature. Once at normal temperature it settles down and works as it should.  If you speak to other Porsche 911 owners this seems to be another common little quirk that these cars seem to have and I am sure would be an easy and inexpensive fix if someone looked into it.

The hand brake. brake fluid and seat belt reminder warning lights on the dash work as they should.

The intensive screen washers work.

All of the lights are in excellent condition and all work fine. The front headlight reflectors are nice and shiny with no dullness to them at all.

Both front fog lights. that are mounted in the front valence. are new and are still in as new condition and of course work.

The above pictures were taken today 21/07/13

When I started the car today I noticed that it was a bit sluggish turning over so I checked the battery and charging circuit. The alternator was charging at the correct rate and the battery seemed ok as well. The battery was the correct Porsche battery but had been fitted several years ago and due to the car being used very rarely was probably at fault.  A friend removed the battery for me and took me along with the battery to Halfords for it to be checked. Several tests were carried out on it and it passed all of them but it was a bit down on the load cranking test. Not wanting the new owner to possibly have battery problems in the future I decided to buy a new battery for the car. It would have been very easy to just buy a cheap battery to put in the Porsche but I am not like that so I bought the correct Bosch battery that Porsche recommend that cost me £116 and comes with a five year warranty so the new owner will not have any future battery problems at all.

As you can tell by what is written above I am very passionate about my car and will be very sad to see it go but I cannot see the point of keeping the car if for medical reasons I cannot drive it.

I feel sure that I have missed a lot of details out when describing the car but I have tried to add as much as possible and also as honest as possible.

Unfortunately I can only load 12 pictures of the car on this auction site but I have many more pictures of the car and would be willing to send them to any serious potential buyers if they would like to see them although the pictures do not do the car justice and a viewing would be much better.

So a summary of what is written above then

This car is a GENUINE Porsche 911 Carrera 3. 2 Supersport coupe with the desirable G 50 gearbox. It is in superb original condition  and has a low mileage of just 92. 00 miles with full service history.

Please feel free to contact me if you require any more information and any inspection is more than welcome and I strongly suggest that you come and view the car for yourself to see just how nice and original this car really is. Please do not just ask how much I will accept for the car without at least talking to me or coming to view for yourself. I know that Supersports are commanding decent prices these days but please remember that this car is a totally original example with original paperwork. tools etc and definitely one for a real Porsche enthusiast.

I will require a £500 deposit at the end of the auction and the remainder to be paid on collection please.
