Part Finished Restoration Project

1970 H - MG B GT Coupe - ( Over-drive ) Finished in Blue Royale

We have owned this MG since 2011 when it was purchased as a Road Going Example with a Current MOT with No Advisories.

The Original Paintwork was tired and faded but other wise the car was generally sound - we decided to embark upon a restoration program and stripped the interior. engine and gearbox etc ready for paint. - the body-shell was sent as a rolling shell to what I can best describe as an "Artisan" body-shop. I knew the turnaround wouldn't be quick but the price would be right and the job would be done well.

It was noted at the time that the wings were recent Heritage items as were the sills - a better replacement bonnet was sourced and any remedial repairs found were corrected & lead-loaded. The Bodywork was extensively blocked straight and the paint applied to a high standard with good shut lines. Work took 18 Months and was completed in November 2013 and has been dry stored since.

Whilst the Body-shell was off site various parts were sent away to be powder coated including the dashboard which has been refinished in the original crinkle black and has been dry stored.

The Underside of the Body-shell was cleaned down and Stone Chipped Black in our work-shop in 2014

In 2015 the Engine was disassembled and sent to a well respected Engine Machine Shop where the Components were checked and the Engine returned as a assembled Short Engine - work included - Regrinding the crank and fitting new shells (+0. 20 ). the Bores looked good and were +0. 40 so they were freshly honed and fitted with New Rings. The Cylinder Head was already converted to Lead-Free so was pressure checked - bead-blasted. skimmed and the valves re seated & assembled.

We Applied for a Heritage Certificate which is included in the History File and confirms that the Car is an Original RHD Home market Car. in Original Colour's and is Matching Numbers.

The Car is supplied complete and will require the suspension / brake system stripping and refurbishing - the Engine re-assembling and refitting etc. The Over-drive Gearbox is complete and not been touched ( worked fine ) and we have a New Clutch Assembly which will be provided inclusive.

I have our restoration workload for 2017 already planned so I have decided to have a bit of a clear out and create some storage space by selling off a few projects which I feel can be completed at Home by an enthusiast without the need for welding and painting etc.

With B GT prices finally on the rise this is a good opportunity to finish off an early BL Car in a desirable and quite rare period colour where the main work has been completed and offered for sale at less than cost.
