THE WORKS PROTOTYPE RELIANT SCIMITAR GTC 001/452

This vehicle has only had 3 previous owners and a very interesting history. It is the original works prototype numbered 001 out of only around 452 manufactured. The car spent the first two years of its life in the hands of the Reliant Motor Company. during which time they carried out engine upgrades. replacing the original 3 litre V6 Essex with the upgraded 2. 8 Cologne engine. hood development and radio suppression mods etc.

In May 1981 the car was sold to the motoring journalist Mike Mcarthy of Classic and Sportscar magazine who wrote many articles on owning this GTC including one comparing the GTC with a Triumph Stag and another concerning professional valeting. (copies of which come with the car)

A year later the car was sold to Martin Morris who for many years raced his ERA historic racer at meetings all over the UK and Europe. It was still registered in his name until I purchased it in 2010.

I have thoroughly enjoyed owning the car and during my ownership all in depth servicing has been carried out. All the fluids. oils. water and brake fluid have been changed. Spark plugs. oil and air filters replaced. brakes overhauled. new fuel pump. new battery. stainless steel manifolds and tyres. but during the last year I have covered very little mileage. Less than 120 miles since previous MOT. which is why I have decided to sell the car.

The car is fully mot'd until June 26th 2014 and taxed until 2014 and comes with four virtually new tyres. She runs very well. with the Kenlowe fan cutting in and out as necessary to control the temperature and with overdrive on 3rd and 4th is surprisingly economical.

The Champagne bodywork is very good but not perfect. there are signs of fibre glass repairs and the paint work has been touched up in places. also some  minor crazing  around the boot area. but in general it is very presentable or its age. The interior is again very good for the age of the car. some buttons missing from the upholstery. but I have spares which will come with the car. The original radio has been replaced with a removable Pioneer cassette unit. Apart from driving it 150 miles home three years ago I have not used the hood. I believe it is the original. I know the perspex windows are discoloured and it has had a couple of minor repairs. but it is serviceable if you have to use it.

Viewing is encoraged and very welcome by appointment:  Telephone 01304 852538  and on clearance of funds you can turn up and drive the car home.
