Ford Escort Mk2,1976,Group 4 Stage Rally Car,( 2 Door Shell) Unfinished Project for sale

Hi everyone. nbsp;                    This auction is for my 1976. Group 4 spec. . Ford Escort Mk2 Rolling Unfinished Project. To start with i am a fully qualified mechanic with over 30 years experience and have a passion for building Escort Rally Cars. I am absolutely gutted to have to sell this car but i simply do not have the time or money to finish the project due to work commitments and changes in personal circumstances. I bought the car back in 2009 from West Wales Rally Spares and although it was originally a Road Rally Car. a lot of the shell preparation had been done professionally. I put the car onto a Jig and it stayed on that for approx 18 months as the shell needed tidying up. Most of the work was repairing other peoples work and i wanted the car to be spot on. The rear arches were starting to rust so the decision was made then to arch the car and get rid of the standard arches all together. I then fitted new wing rails. nder wing pans and verticals being very carefull not to lose the original suspension tops and therefore ensuring the holes were in the correct places!! I painted the car myself using 2 pack Selemix which is very hard wearing. I would like to point out that the paint work is not perfect as there are a few runs and fish eyes due to silcone getting into the paint (my fault!!) as well as dust. The winning bidder will be able to rub the defects out as there is ample depth in the paint (it will just take time!!). Having said that. it is a Rally Car and if used for that purpose then the paint work will be more than adequate. The underside was stripped back to bare metal and was given 2 coats of stonechip and 3 coats of white hammerite. The reasoning behind using hammerite is that the underside can always be easily repainted every season. The rear leaf spring mountings have been retained just in case someone wants that kind of set up. I will do my best to try and list everything but you can always give me a ring to discuss the car further.
Bodyshell Specifications
Full Group 4 prepared shell. Fully seam welded. Gussetted. ew wing pans and verticals. ew wing rails. Professionally fitted 4 link bar boxes and rear round turrets (will accommodate coil overs or standard shocks). Professionally fitted firewall and front bulkhead strengthener kit. Large gearbox and diff. tunnels (can be used with Atlas axle if required. Welded fuel tank platform. Both chassis rails fitted with full length skid plates. Sill jacking/axle stand points welded in. Watts linkage and Panhard Rod mounting boxes (Panhard rod not used on this set up). Seat mounting frames welded into tunnel and inner sills as per MSA rules. Alloy Tarmac Arches all round. Polycarbonate Side and rear windows (with Sliders). Front Laminated Heated Screen. Fibreglass Bonnet with alloy bonnet pins. Fibreglass Bootlid with integral spoiler and securing springs. The Rollcage is a Safety Devices 14 point cage with fitted door bars and RACMSA/FIA sticker and i have fitted a rear harness bar which also acts as a rear strut brace which was made from the required cold drawn seamless steel tube. Front Strut Brace with welded mountings. World Cup Crossmember with Pinto engine mountings. Front Radiator crossmember adapted to allow the fitting of a larger radiator.
Front Suspension and steering
Bilstein Wedged Coilover height adjustable struts with 300/70 long inserts and fitted with 14 inch 225lb springs. Spherical bearing top mounts. Two and a quarter turn quick rack with RS2000 track rod ends. New Anti dive/double width kit. New twin cam anti roll bar (which brings the castor angle forward to increase handling performance). New heavy duty track control arms purchased from Peter Lloyd Rallying with polybushes on the anti roll bar side. Group 4 Steering Knuckle Joint. Alloy steering rack mounts. New steel steering arms. New alloy front hub kit with new bearings etc installed and with long type studs.
Rear Suspension and Axle
Bilstein 220/110 Coilovers (height adjustable) with 14 inch 185lbs springs. 4 link bars (adjustable). Watts Linkage kit fitted to an English Axle casing. The Axle casing is also braced for extra strength. I chose the English Axle as they are generally cheaper to build and maintain and as the car is set up for a Pinto then the  English set up could handle the power. The car used to have an Atlas Axle but at the time i couldn't afford to buy it. therefore an Atlas Axle will fit if required in the future. As mentioned before. the rear spring hangers are still intact so any type of suspension set up can be used. Most competitors now prefer the coilover set up anyway.
Engine and Gearbox
There is a good usable Pinto 205 block installed to show that everything lines up properly. I do have the other engine parts such as pistons. rankshaft etc and these will be supplied with the car if required. The block would need a skim and rebore as it was from a 2 litre injection Sierra and is standard. The Gearbox is a type 9. 5 speed and is complete. in working order but standard. There is a new Rose Jointed gear stick fitted as well as an alloy gear surround kit. The gearbox mounting is a heavy duty one. again purchased from Peter Lloyd Rallying.
Electrical
The car is NOT wired but as you can see from the photos. pretty much everything is there to be able to do so. The Temp. Oil and Volt gauges are new but have been fitted into the dash. (the oil and temp. senders are in the boxes and will be supplied with the car). The instrument cluster has been modified to retain the original speedo but add the Stack rev counter. Other items included are the FIA Master Switch. Fuse box. Relay box. Switches. Fibreglass centre console etc. tc. Also included is a complete standard wiring loom for a mk2 which can be used for donor cable or fitted then adapted and heavy duty battery/earth cable so the battery can be connected with no voltage drop. The headlights are both new Angel Eye ones with integral LED side lights (i also have 2 Cibie units which are usable if preferred).
Miscellaneous Items included
New Alloy Fuel Tank with Alloy spill tray
2 x new Facet electric fuel pumps
New Fibreglass battery box
New Hydraulic Handbrake with cylinder (the standard handbrake has also been fitted to use cables)
New Alloy Navigators Footrest
Sparco suede steering wheel
Flocked dashboard top (to reduce glare)
Alloy Spot Lamp brackets
2 x pairs of Steel Seat Side mounts (not in photos)
Alloy rear light lens guards fitted
Heater Unit installed (cables not used)
Bias Pedal Box Adjuster
3 x Pull Cables for battery and fire extinguishers. (battery and extinguishers not included!)
Air Horns
Standard Mk2 Pedal Box (includes the important clutch cable clip!!)
I have the 2 front fibreglass quarter bumpers with indicator lights. one of them is broken but repairable and they will need painting. I have also got the rear bumper which again is fibreglass and broken. this will come with the car as the brackets and number plate lights can be salvaged. I think that covers everything. if you need to speak to me about the car then my mobile number is 07930 190590. you are welcome to view the car if required but no time wasters please. This is a lovely project for someone as all the hard work is complete and once finished will be a really competitive rally car which will last for years if handled properly. As mentioned i am not happy to have to sell it so won't stand any messing around. I know the majority of e-bayers out there are genuine but for the record i need to mention a few things. br> The only method of payment accepted in this auction is Cash on Collection. No overseas bidders please. vehicle is for sale in the U. K only. Please do not put in a massive bid to win and then expect to haggle over the price as i won't be interested! There will be a reserve which i believe to be reasonable taking into account the money spent on the car. If the car sells then the winning bidder has 1 week to collect it or it will be relisted or withdrawn. I am not interested in any part exchanges so please don't ask. The car will need to be trailered away as no Tax/MOT etc. The wheels and tyres supplied are from a standard Ford Fiesta and fitted the wrong way around to fill the arches!! Although they couldn't be used on this car they are actually usable and legal for someone who has a Fiesta?? They are fitted purely to allow the shell to be moved with ease!! I have covered the numbers on the number plates up to be cautious as i don't want the plates cloned!! The V5 Document is present and the VIN Plate is attached to the car.
Thanks for looking and good luck.
I have decided to list for a second time and have dropped the reserve slightly to sell. The fibreglass front bumpers mentioned in the advert have now been repaired and fitted to the car. The rear bumper will have to be renewed as i don't have the corner part which has broken off. The car has had a lot of interest during the first week and if you want to discuss it in more detail then give me a call. Thanks
