This cars history.
Its was originally purchased by New Orders record label in 1990 as a gift for Bernard Sumner's on the back of their number 1 world cup song "world in motion" released in 1989. Ownership was originally to a lease company to the record label. which was later transferred to Bernard on 2/3/1992. although Bernard has had this from new. the first owner was the record label. Bernard then owned this car until May 2014 and covered the best part of 100. 00 miles in it himself.
The car itself. is un-modified. Most Z1's came with no stereo. and this one has a 1990's Alpine head unit with multi CD changer in the boot. The seats are original and are in excellent condition which is rare for a Z1. There are the original half leather camo. The roof is in a "like new" condition which I would have thought this has been replaced at some point. There are no known faults with the car. The immobiliser has been disconnected at some stage in its life. and the exhaust has some rust. The car is stored in a temperature controlled garage and only driven dry. Service. new tyres and cam belt done this year.
"Every car built by BMW is mechanically identical. and the only bodily changes will be interior and exterior colours. Top Red is the most common colour. with black and green close behind. Fun Yellow is rare. with later metallic blue and metallic purple also highly sought after. Interior trim is either grey or cream. depending on the exterior paint colour. A few important things to look out for when you are buying a Z1 are the original 16-inch alloy wheels. which are unique to the Z1. Keep an eye out for the standard original three-spoke steering wheel. which is also extremely hard to replace. Original accessories and parts are also rare. and very expensive to replace. It's worth checking that the genuine mats are in place. as well as the correct space saver wheel and cover. Period radio upgrades were common. so finding a car with an original head unit is not too common. You might however struggle to find a replacement. especially the unique Z1 audio system fitted to early cars. if you wish to return it to standard spec. Although every Z1 left the factory in left-hand drive form. a handful of cars were converted to right-hand drive in the UK. It was an expensive conversion at the time. carried out by Griffin Motorsport and Birds. with some also getting uprated larger BMW engines at the same time. "
