Same owner for over 56 years!
The 1953 Kaiser Manhattan in this eBay listing has some very interesting historic facts. First we would like to mention how the Kaiser Manhattan came to be.
After World War II Kaiser was filthy with money as he was building heavy equipment for WWII. In 1947 he decided to make his own car and had the very first all new car design after the war. beating out all the three major Detroit car manufacturers. Shortly thereafter though the Big Three caught up with him and he needed something really special.
Enter Dutch Darrin one of the most famous independent pre and post war automotive designers and Kaiser had him design the 1953 Kaiser Manhattan. Keep in mind that Dutch Darrin was also the man who designed the Kaiser Darrin and that is considered to be one of the most beautiful post war automotive designs in the early 1950s.
When you take a look at the Kaiser Manhattan from any angle it is really spectacular and so is the interior. Dutch Darrin was truly a master of over all design and it certainly shows on this car; especially those great looking taillights!
The interesting thing about this car is that the same man owned it for over 56 years until he gave it to his son shortly before he passed away at age 98! At the time of his passing his son became the new owner. The current owner (the son) said he remembers they drove this car on a family trip when he was 18 years old. so his father may have had it longer but he doesn't remember specifically when his father purchased it.
His father was great mechanic and took great care of the car. The color scheme is one of the most popular color schemes. the father painted this car about ten years ago the best the son can recall. The private seller (the son) has advised us that it drives great in the city and also on the road in a very pleasant manner. The interior and trunk and engine are all tidy.
Seller's father who was a great mechanic rebuilt the original engine. Manual 3-speed transmission. Nylon tires. Clear title in son's name.
The son tells us that his father insisted that the car be kept in a garage with heat and air.
Please note that at this time the clock and radio do not work.
It is one of the faster combinations for the Kaiser Darrin when you have the manual 3-speed transmission. Again. interestingly the father (believed to be the second owner) was a mechanic and kept the car in tiptop condition. The car made the father very happy for almost 60 years as it has rolled out 115. 45 pleasant and dependable miles. It is ready to make the next owner very happy for either for the Saturday afternoon car shows or for long touring.
Very seldom are Kaiser Manhattans seen at car shows and most often when they do show up they are certain to draw a crowd.
The son who got this car when his father passed has decided to sell this family heirloom that has been in the family for over 57 years and has put an extremely low reserve on the car. We can't think of a better bang for the buck in the car collector market then this beautiful 1953 Kaiser Manhattan. Not a car that you see very often and is a car you should bid to win.
In the photos we have included a couple Kaiser Manhattan advertising pages from the Internet for your amusement.
