This is an extremely rare truck. even though many parts are interchangeable from 1960-1965 and still readily available.   I say rare because in 1962. only 620 were built as a 4x4 and of those. only 240 were short bed.   I don't know the breakdown between stepside and fleetside but this one came from the factory as a stepside.   It was special ordered with the 261 engine which came standard in the Chevy 2 ton trucks.   I am the second owner and purchased it 1981. 35 years ago from an old gentleman cattle rancher at the Coon Creek Cattle Company here in Northern California and it has remained a California truck since the day it was built.   I have never seen a truck like it and nor have you.   It remains mostly original. not some converted job.   It didn't look like this when I saved it.   It was white and had a fleetside bed on it.   The bed fender wells were trimmed (and not very well I might add) because the old gentleman told me he was about to put dual wheels on it.   It still ran strong. wasn't all banged up on the outside nor cut up on the inside.   It had never been in a wreck and still hasn't been to this day.   It wasn't pretty but still looked cool to me and turned a few heads even then.   I drove it for a few years and it's seen a lot of back roads from the Pacific Ocean to the California Sierras over and into Nevada as well as up to the Oregon border.   It never failed to get me to where I was going and back home again.   About 3 or 4 years later. the right rear brake cylinder developed a leak.   I parked it thinking I would do some more extensive work other than just the brakes.   Life kept on moving but the truck didn't as I soon started a family and needed better transportation for work.   I would continue to save for that time when “someday I'm going to fix it up” came along but life and family was always more important.   As years keep rolling by I never gave up on it. moving it with me where I went until one day finally parking it behind the barn at my dad's place where sat for many years.   He used to threaten to sell it if I didn't do something with it but I kept telling everyone someday I was going to fix it and every Thanksgiving I would wash it. air up the tires and say see. it's fine.   Then someday came along. kids grew up and the wife said why don't you fix up the old truck and so another chapter began.   At first just to make it a good 4x4 hunting and fishing truck but somehow I kept making things newer. cleaner and nicer looking and ended up with a truly remarkable and beautiful truck.   A friend of mine once talked me into taking it to a car show where it won best of show for resto mod.   I never entered in another show as that is not my thing but man does this thing get attention.   Anyway. I thought it would be easy enough for a frame off restoration so started taking it apart.   I knew every inch of this ol' truck but still tagged. bagged and photograph everything.   As I got deeper into the tear down I found under the white paint was black paint. under the black paint was yellow paint. under the yellow paint was red.   Red being the original color as confirmed thru research and no other colors under the red.   Why am I selling it?  I don't have to and actually have been selling it in my head for a few years but not my heart.   I'm getting to where I don't see as well as I used to and have lost some strength due to old timers disease.   This is a frame out restoration.   All the body parts have been sand blasted. primed and painted with single stage paint in Glenwood Green and Pure White for the cap.   The work was done by Kevin Keerny out of Sacramento. they paint all the Teichert Construction trucks.   I've never color sanded the paint but man would it shine even more than this if I did.   These are stock colors for 1962 Chevrolet pickups.   The fender skirts and sheet metal have been sand blasted and powder coated.   Side air vents and heater have been completely dismantled sand blasted. powder coated and have all new seals and gaskets.   The running gear has been rebuilt front to back. out to out by Central 4 Wheel Drive.   Only place I had ever taken it and they have been around longer than I've owned the truck.   They're famous with jeep owners in my area.   This includes seals. bearings and newer heaver axles in the rear but keeping the stock 411 ratio front and rear.   I had the springs checked a Sacramento Spring in case they needed to be re-arched but it wasn't required since they were still within 1/6 of factory.   Pins all have been replace and have the worm groove in them for a more even grease coverage and all have new grease fittings.   I really loved Sacrament Spring.   The old man that checked the springs was 80 years old and tough as nails and damned if he hadn't been there for 40 years. and still made springs to order by hand if you needed it.   I'm sure he's gone now.  Bilstein shocks.   Brake system completely rebuilt using stainless tubing and all new cylinders and master cylinder.    Wiring completely up to date using Classic Wire products which gets the newer blade type fuses.   Rear lights are led in the stock housing.   I put 10 coats of marine varathane on the oak bed boards.   Sanding then removing dust with cheese cloth after each coat.   This took 2 weeks as I would let each coat dry overnight.   Side of the bed have sprayed on liner and the bolts are new stainless as are the washers.   Speaking of bolts.   If it needed replacing I did so with grade 8 and for looks I would use stainless which was a lot.   Inside the cab has been insulated on the floors. doors and firewall and some bed liner has been sprayed in a small area so there is no twanging echo when you close the doors.   Seat redone by Roseville Upholstery.   Speaking of doors.   The window cranks were sandblasted. primed and greased and work flawlessly.   New track felt and the glass has been replaced with tinted green glass.   Windshield is new as the original had a crack across it.   Rear glass stayed original.   Not the original radio but I do have it.   I was able to find one that fit in the opening without cutting and the speaker is in the same location using a single stereo speaker.   All new Soft Seal rubber.   Rebuilt gauge cluster and gauges. reset the speedo.   Updated neoprene body mounts. New gas tank and sending unit.   In the engine compartment and the little hot rod 6.   Engine was rebuilt by Roseville Engine Machine.   Cam ground. head shaved. valve angle grind. valve springs and inserts all done per Clifford specs and it now runs on unleaded.   Clifford water heated manifold and on top of that sits a Holly 390 four barrel.   Split headers and custom exhaust to the rear done by Porter muffler here in Roseville.   Electronic distributor from Stovebolt so no more points.   Lots of steel braided hose and Earl's fittings.   I'm sure I missed to list something but this was a complete frame out.   Everything was either cleaned. rebuilt or replaced. nothing was left untouched and I mean nothing.   I have 35 years worth of spare parts that go with the truck and if you don't want them they are going to be given away.   I don't need help selling it. don't ask.   I don't want to trade. don't ask. The truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction immediately if sold locally.
