Here for sale is my stunning 1970 Buick Electra 225.  In amazing condition. Spotless in almost every respect. Must be one of the best available anywhere in the world. A real survivor. Started life in Denver Colorado. before finding its way to Texas at some point. and then being shipped to the UK in 2012.
Superb body work. No rust anywhere. never been wrecked or pranged. Underside is as clean as a whistle. No underseal or goop concealing anything. Just a yearly wax oyling to keep it tip top. I had the car painted last winter in its original colour. The factory paint had been baked a bit on the hood and trunk. and was starting to look a bit tired (as you'd expect after 45 years). I did all the prep myself and took photos of the process (back breaking). The car was that straight that it only took about a golfball sized worth of filler over the whole car after rubbing it down. prior to painting it. This was just for the odd minor mark and pin dent. Its been painted in proper two pack paint. and we put on about 9 litres. Will be good for years!People say about classic Mercedes having that "thunk" as you shut the doors. This car beats that. All proper. thick. high quality steel. and being a top of the line Buick its built properly too. Has that genuine super solid feeling. like it will be here in another 50 years time.
All chrome and brightwork is excellent. No rust or pitting anywhere. Same goes for all the stainless trim. All there. nothing missing. all straight and clean and bright.
The previous UK owner replaced the vinyl roof. as the original had been a bit stretched and tired. This was done using an Everflex vinyl roof. which is the same as Rolls and Bently's use. Its in very good order with no splits or tears.
Inside is lovely. Again. all original upholstery. and carpets. and all in excellent order. All trim is present and correct. Everything works inside the car. Electric windows. six way power seats. factory air conditioning. heater. vent system. interior lighting etc. The only thing that doesn't work is the clock on the dash. The original radio is still in place too. It lights up ok and i assume it works. Everything is in fine condition. with no issues. Door cards. headlining. dashboard. plastic trim etc. s all excellent. Nothing has been abused or damaged. and its a very nice place to be. It has an expensive set of deep pile mats embossed with the Buick logo. but I also have the factory supplied rubber throw over mats in excellent condition. You will see it has a modern stereo on the transmission tunnel. in a housing. It has a very effective sound system which i fitted. and it sounds awesome. Two small speakers in the front. two 6x9's under the parcel shelf. and twin 12" subs in the trunk. All powered by two separate amplifiers. I have fitted it all very sympathetically. and i haven't modified the car. It can all be removed easily with no resulting damage. Other points to note. and anyone who's had old american cars will appreciate. It does not leak inside. and it does not leak in the trunk. The wipers work properly. and actually clean the screen! I bypassed the old mechanical washer pump and fitted an electric one. just for safety's sake. Though the original pump is still in place. No sun damage to the dash or steering wheel either. AND it smells good inside. not like an old dish cloth. Lol.
The electrical system is all spot on. Everything works. and is super reliable. All exterior lights. including all marker lights are working as they should. The loom has never been butchered or cut about. All connectors are good. and you won't find any twisted wires. or dodgy connections on this car. Headlights are actually pretty good. and night driving is not the terrifying experience it can often be in some old cars. It looks beautiful at night with all its illuminations. and has very nice interior lights too.
Mechanically. the car is as good as you'd hope. The 455 engine runs superbly. and makes great power. Still running its original Quadrajet carburetor. Starts well in hot or cold conditions. Idles correctly. and behaves just as you'd expect. Again. not modified or altered with cheap chinese chrome or unnecessary bling. No leaks. no smoke. no rattles. no exhaust blows etc. Doesn't get hot and will sit idling happily for hours without issue. Never been apart or rebuilt. Just well cared for.  It is of course a V8. and one of the best! 1970 was the debut year for the monster 455 ci engine. and was the only year that the full fat. high compression engine was used before de-tuning and smog strangling clipped its wings. This is the same engine as fitted to the mighty GSX. Rated at 370hp. with a whopping 510lbs of torque. Its a big car. but my god it shifts! Whilst its very civilized and will happily gurgle along the sea front. if you plant the loud pedal it roars like a beast. and will show a clean pair of tail lights to many a supposed "muscle car". Its a genuinely quick car. and will surprise you. This is no overweight marshmallow. Gearbox is the super strong TH400. Shifts seamlessly. super smooth and never given any cause for concern. Never any slip or funny noises. Fluid is nice and pink. Out the back is a proper positraction limited slip diff. The car needs this to get the power down. otherwise it would just sit there and shred its tyres if you tried to move off quickly. It does what it should. and performs without fuss. Again no clunks or knocks. or whines from anywhere on the drive line. No signs of slop of wear. It has a proper twin pipe exhaust fitted with a pair of Flowmaster mufflers out the back. This gives a glorious big block rumble. and if you blip the throttle i guarantee it will make you smile and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Although this car has plenty snarl if you want it. its just as happy pottering about at tickover in town.
Suspension is all in good order. It is not built for razor sharp handling. but it may well surprise you that the car is more agile than you would expect. I replaced the rear shocks with a pair of air adjustable Monroes. This was just to give the back end a bit more stability when carrying a full load of passengers. Ride quality is excellent. There is no rattling trim. it doesn't squeak or groan like many big old cars. In fact. if you let off the throttle. its literally almost silent. as it glides along.
It has nice light power steering. which makes life easy. It tracks nice and straight and doesn't wander about in the road. Brakes are very good. Power assisted. A monster set of finned aluminum drums on the front. which are better than many disc braked cars i've driven. In fact they are just as good as many modern cars. I put new cylinders on the back over the winter and replaced all the fluid. I also have a new set of shoes for the front for when they ever need changing in the future.
Wheels and tyres. are all spot on. Has a matching set of four Hercules narrow band whitewalls in the correct size. All with loads of tread. and only done about 2000 miles. Fitted about two years ago. so no perishing or cracking. Good grip. with low noise. The wheel trims fitted in the pictures are from a different model. though are genuine factory Buick ones. I shipped over a couple of sets at considerable expense. and restored one good set. I liked these as they have a bit more attitude than the standard wheel trims. I do of course have the originals in mint condition. I also have a spare wheel.

Buying a classic American car can be fraught with disappointment (trust me. i know). as you can often be buying someone elses problems. Some people don't know how to look after them or don't understand them properly. Many have been bodged. abused. modified badly. or poorly repainted. Cars from the golden age of american cars are all approaching or over 50 years old too. so need the right care.
What this car offers is the experience that you want. and that all the magazines and tv shows promise. A beautiful head turning car that you can get in and drive. No rust. shiny chrome. and is utterly reliable. Mechanical parts are plentiful and cheap. and there is plenty of space and it is simple to work on. Then you have that monster V8 soundtrack. Which is like music to anyone with a love of cars. This car offers everything you could want. On one had. its a refined and elegant boulevard cruiser. but underneath. at the prod of a peddle. it has all the hallmarks and underpinnings of the best of the best muscle cars.  This isn't the cheapest car. but what you are also buying with this car is piece of mind. A properly sorted car. with no hidden nasties or big bills round the corner. No annoying faults. and a car that has been loved and cherished. I've had many american cars. Trans Ams. Mustangs. Roadrunners etc. and nothing has been more fun or satisfying to own as this Buick. I cannot tell you how many hours i've put into it. and how much money i've spent on it to make it the best it can be. I took a friend out in it the other day who is also an american car owner. and his comments kind of sum it up. "It feels really solid. like it'll never let you down. just feels right".
Also worth mentioning. that if you wanted. you could earn some good money with this car. Weddings. proms etc.

I'm not really that fussed about selling it. for all the reasons mentioned above. just maybe fancy a change for another 50's. 60's or 70's yank. Interested in anything American. as long as its all up together and a nice car in similar condition. WHY? Nothing rubbish. Be nice to do a simple swap or exchange. so i'll advertise it and see if there's anyone who will appreciate what a great car this is. I've had over 200 cars in my life to date. and i've kept this longer than any of them. Pictures don't do it justice. Come and see for yourself.
25/9/16.
Just given it its annual service with fresh oil and filters. and also drained and refilled the anti freeze. Along with this. i've had it up on axle stands and given it another full waxoyl underneath into every nook and cranny. A proper messy job. but at least its something you don't need to worry about!
