This 1954 Chevy 3100 represents the end of the line for the "Advance Design" trucks that are beloved around the world. even today. In 1955. Chevy would introduce an all-new truck. but that didn't mean they sat on their hands and did nothing for '54. A new grille. a bigger engine. and a one-piece windshield make trucks like this '54 model the ones to own if you're looking for something with classic styling.



This is a very nicely restored truck. with a gorgeous Hunter Green paint job that looks great on the rounded bodywork. The work is quite well done. with good straight panels that indicate that this truck was never beaten and bruised in its day job. While most of these were somber-looking workhorses. the vivid green paint and jaunty yellow pinstripes give this one a lively look that will make people look twice. and when they do. they'll definitely like what they see. The grille has been painted to match the bodywork. which was how they were often done back in the day (chrome was an option. although most were painted white). In back. the bed has been will lovely oak planks that look great and may still be willing to do a little work around the house since they're not perfect anymore. Bright chrome bumpers. that side-mounted spare tire. and those two bright exhaust tips peeking out from under the rear bumper give it a highly polished look that belies its working origins.



Further design improvements for '54 included a redesigned dashboard with recessed instruments. the speaker grille bars were now vertical instead of horizontal. and the upper portion of the dash bulged out slightly over the working section like an eyebrow. Finger grips were added to the steering wheel. and the style looks vaguely reminiscent of what you might have seen in a passenger car of the same vintage. The seat is upholstered in tan cloth. set off by matching two-tone paint on the dash and door panels. and it's a nice change from the usual gray or black found in these trucks. The original rubber floor mat is gone. replaced by tan carpets. making this truck feel a lot more luxurious than it did when it was new. And for those long. cool drives coming back from the cruise-in. there's a dealer-installed heater mounted under the dash.



1954 was also the year that Chevy finally put the 235 cubic inch inline-six under the hood. Borrowed from the larger Load-Master line. it features full-pressure lubrication. a heady 7. 5:1 compression ratio. and aluminum pistons. and makes a very usable 112 horsepower and 200 pounds of torque. The engine bay is tidy and the engine itself has been dressed up properly in corporate gray enamel with a heavy-duty oil bath air cleaner on the single-barrel carburetor. Correct "Thriftmaster 235" decals on the valve cover brighten up the somber engine bay. but then again. this was for work not play. Underneath. there's a 4-speed HydraMatic automatic transmission spinning the original rear end. and you'll be surprised by how much pep that automatic transmission adds to the big six. It's quite clean with satin black paint and a custom exhaust with a 2-outlet muffler that sounds pretty darned good. Factory steel wheels were painted bright yellow and fitted with trim rings and hub caps. plus a set of 6. 00-16 wide whites.



Nice trucks that can be driven and shown with pride are still available. and they're still very affordable as this '54 Chevy so ably proves. Call today!
