History of NSU:  NSU (Neckarsulm Stickmachen Union) had a factory in Neckarsulm. Germany in 1873 where they manufactured knitting machines.  In 1886 they began to make bicycles. and by 1892 they stopped making knitting machines to focus on manufacturing bicycles.  In 1900 they started experimenting with motorized bicycles and in 1901 built their first motorcycle.  During WW1. NSU produced munitions for the German Army. and after the war they started producing motorcycles.  By 1933. NSU became one of the largest manufacturers of motorcycles.  During WW2. NSU produced thousands of motorcycles and bicycles to be used in the German forces.  After the war. NSU began producing motorcycles again. and developed models like the Fox. the Konsul. the Quickly. and other motorbikes.  In 1961. NSU partnered with Wankel to develop a rotary engine. eventually abandoning motorcycles for their new engine design and the Prinz cars they were manufacturing.  By 1963. NSU stopped producing motorcycles altogether. and the company was consolidated into VW Corporation.
