2004 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS recreation

The Dino. named in honour of Enzo Ferrari's son. was a brand for
V6 engined Ferrari's and the project that Alfredo 'Dino' Ferrari
worked on before he died tragically of muscular dystrophy at just
24. In order to homologate Ferrari's Formula Two entry in 1966. the
FIA requested that 500 production cars were produced using the same
V6 unit as the race car. The Fiat Dino was born using the two litre
V6 Ferrari unit which was later used in the early 206GT versions of
the Dino. Ferrari used the mid engined configuration that was
working well for them in sports car racing for the new Dino and the
prototype 206S was shown at the 1966 Turin show. The car drew a
positive response and Ferrari put the car into production. making
it the first mid engine production Ferrari.
The 246 Dino GT weighed 2. 80 pounds and the GTS weighed 2. 26
pounds using steel bodies in favour of lower production costs over
aluminum. Production numbered 2. 87 GTs and 1. 74 Spiders'. the
latter being built from 1972 to 1974 only. for a total production
run of 3. 61.

Built on a bespoke Dino chassis. this fantastic recreation
finished in Ferrari red has had its Alfa Romeo three litre V6
engine fully rebuilt in 2010 and has since covered just 1. 00
miles. Boasting the T -Bar roof and authentic Ferrari badges. the
current owner has spent in excess of £3. 00 recently ensuring this
example is a pride to not only own but also drive. Built by Classic
Replicas in Bridgewater where it has been stored and maintained by
Gordon Ainsby. this example has even had its radiator raised to
ensure speed humps can be tackled with no problems making this a
truly usable homage to the 246.

Much time and love has been taken first building and then
maintaining this tribute and the owner expresses it is the best way
to enjoy such a car without the worry of taking the real thing out
of a museum. have all of the fun at less than half of the costs.
