EXTERIORThis example of the E28 M5 comes in the smart Diamond swartz metallic paintwork. After 2 days of thorough detailing and a machine polish here at 4 Star. the paintwork is gleaming as it once did in the BMW showroom in 1986. showing a deep metallic flake with a beautiful glassy finish. Under close inspection. there are some expected light stone chips to be found towards the front of the car and some light corrosion starting to appear on the bottom of the front wings which will be addressed prior to delivery. However. the complimenting dark shadow-line trim is in excellent order as is the rear spoiler and lights that all remain free from any cracks or damage. With only 187 units produced in RHD. this is a great example of the original. iconic M5 that started it all. INTERIORDespite being able to see off most super cars in the 1980's. the M5s interior is a very comfortable and accommodating place to seat four adults for a long journey. The build quality is second to none and even after 25 years. all the interior fixings. trim and switch gear still feel tight and well screwed together. The leather seats show very little signs of age. with no wear to the bolsters and all the adjustment controls work as they should. The BMW tool kit is still complete. housed in the boot area and the carpet throughout the interior remains in good condition. ENGINE & TRANSMISSIONThis car has been meticulously maintained over the years by well known BMW Specialists. so it is in fine mechanical order. The all important timing chain has been replaced and there is stacks of invoices detailing all previous work. Even by today's standards. this is a very quick car and it still pins you back in your seat as the revs build past 4. 00rpm. The fantastic M88 engine is mated with a 5 speed manual gearbox that handles the engines power perfectly. shifting up through the gears smoothly with precision. WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKESThe E28 M5 is fitted with 16" cross spoke alloy wheels that allow for modern tyres. All the wheels are in excellent condition having been refurbished and show no kerb marks or blemishes. The wheels are shod in a matching set of Michelin eagle tyres that all have a good amount of tread remaining. The brakes were fully overhauled in 2009 that included new calipers. discs and pads and as such work brilliantly pulling the car up quickly in a straight line. HISTORY FILEThis E28 M5 was first registered in November 1986 and had its running in service done in January 1987. The early services where carried out at the dealer and since then it has been looked after by a couple of well known BMW Specialists. The original service book is still present with a total of 34 stamps. There is also a folder that contains all the old service receipts. detailing all the work that has been carried out. The last inspection was an oil service at 129k miles by an independent garage. Almost all of the old MOT certificates have been kept and there are some photographs taken when the car had the paintwork done.
