SELLER REMARKS

While the AMC Javelin isn't as famous or popular as the more common Mustangs and Camaros. take a good look at this 1972 Javelin SST and you'll find a lot of cool details that deserve a closer inspection. It also offers V8 muscle and tidy handling. not to mention that stunning color combination. all of which make it a great choice if you tend to color outside the lines a little bit.

The Javelin was redesigned in 1971 and got longer. lower. and wider with dramatic flared fenders that are its most distinctive look. But being the early 1970s. it was still OK to go a little wild with colors and decals. and this SST wears a fresh coat of original Wild Plum. and it's as magnificent today as it surely was in 1972. With the addition of front and rear spoilers. it takes on an attitude that's quite aggressive. seemingly ignoring the fact that the horsepower races were over. The bodywork is amazingly straight and well-executed thanks to a comprehensive restoration in 2009. after which the car traveled fewer than 3000 miles. Check out the white vinyl roof. which is split down the middle by a raised section of bodywork and is so odd that it's cool. There's also enough chrome to remind you that this was 1972. and all of it has been neatly refinished so it sparkles against the vivid purple paint.

Inside. it's quite elegant with high-back buckets upholstered in black and white houndstooth fabric that looks decidedly familiar. The Javelin received just about the coolest dashboard of the period. a wrap-around affair that was more like a cockpit than anything since the original Corvette. With a brushed stainless face and handsome shiny gauges inside squared circles. it maintains the racy image that the Javelin represented. Everything is within easy reach of the driver. including the AM/FM/cassette stereo and the climate controls (including factory A/C!). and the center console houses a tachometer at its leading edge. Things like the dash pad and door panels are original. so you know this has always been a nice car. and it's so well finished that even the clock remains fully functional. There's also a reasonably-sized back seat and lots of storage under the sloping rear deck. even with the space-saver spare in the trunk.

You could still get several varieties of V8 power in your Javelin. with this one carrying the mid-range 304 cubic inch V8. Topped by an 650 CFM Edelbrock carb and dressed in chrome. it has a definite vintage muscle car look. The engine bay is dominated by the big A/C compressor. which uses R134a refrigerant. but you can see the corporate blue paint on the block and lots of new equipment including the master cylinder. AMC was using Chrysler transmissions. so the TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic is rugged and reliable. not to mention easy to service. although that should be unnecessary for a good long time thanks to a rebuild less than 3000 miles ago. 3. 15 gears mean that it cruises effortlessly at highway speeds. and you'll find that the sleek Javelin makes for an outstanding long-distance cruiser. Long-tube headers and a new dual exhaust system sound awesome. and Magnum 500 wheels and 215/70/14 radials stuff those big wheel arches.

Cool. unusual. and a lot of fun to drive. this Javelin is a great choice for the guy who dreams of being a little different. Call today!
