numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. Most of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

condition

Exterior

The Silver Metallic exterior is in great driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has a terrific gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. Both door open and shut nicely as do the hood and headlights. The N90 aluminum wheels and center caps are in beautiful condition with a brilliant finish. The tires are virtually brand new and are correctly sized 225/70R15. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are a few small imperfections on the rear bumper and some other spots that were too tiny to show up in the pictures. but nothing that is really noticeably from about five or ten feet away. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car. it is very clean and this Corvette has absolutely NO RUST ISSUES. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" are in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield. which are the two most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.

Window Date Codes

Please note that ALL of the glass on this Corvette. even the windshield and both T-Tops. is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of October. 1981 (10B). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Charcoal Leather interior in this Corvette is in spectacular original condition. The seats are in excellent condition with no rips. split seams. or excessive wear. They are not worn in the typical area where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats and skins. not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet is good original condition with no major stains. This includes the rear carpet. which is often neglected. The door panels are in wonderful shape with no splits or cracks and. unlike many Corvettes of this age. they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. The jack and jack handle are still with the car. stored correctly behind the passenger seat. and pictured below showing the original decals on the compartment lid. The original spare is still with the car. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes. Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well. and the excellent condition of this almost all original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time. runs well. and idle smooth. It drives great and feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. shifting through all the gears. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that there are no vibrations or strange noises and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. Also. the engine compartment is beautifully clean. detailed. correct and complete as one can see in the photos. Even the smog pump and original catyltic converter are still in place.

The radio works as do all the exterior lights. wipers. power windows. and all of the gauges with the obvious exception of the clock. The blower works on all speeds. The power antenna and power locks both work. which are very common problems on this era Corvette. The horn does not work. Both power mirrors work in all four directions and the power seat works in most directions. The a/c works and blows cold. One can observe the a/c compressor engaging properly in the video. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. Also. the headlights go up properly with either the headlight switch or vacuum override switch. There complete operation form both switches can be viewed in the video below. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.

Also. for any 1981 Corvette you may look at. be sure to verify that the "check engine" light is working correctly. The light should go on when the key is turned on as a confirmation that the light is working. then quickly go off when the car is started. A great number of these 1981 Corvettes have had the bulb removed to mask other problems. As one can observe in the video the "check engine" light on this car operates just as it should. going on with the car as a check and then going off when the engine is started.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1981 Corvette is in magnificent driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. especially with low mileage examples like this car. and as any buyer can see this Corvette is extremely correct. The originality. the beautiful original color combination. the excellent overall condition. and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased considerably over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
