Black paint retains a smooth gloss overall on straight. clean panels and is thought to be original except for on the upper trunk lid. where crazing in the finish is difficult to capture in photos. Other cosmetic flaws include stone chips in the nose and a scrape on the left front fender from a tree branch. along with scuffs on the chin spoiler and rear bumper cover.

The seller and his mechanic recently inspected the car for exterior rust and were unable to find any notable amount. Factory wheels are shod in Continental ExtremeContact DW and DWS rubber.  The dished rims show dirt and rash. while “throwing star” covers look cleaner.

JDM E34s were similar in spec to European-market cars and featured fender-mounted side markers and wraparound bumper trim without reflectors. This example also wears clear corners. nbsp;ellipsoid headlights. optional shadowline black window trim and aftermarket monochrome roundels. Plastic trim is straight throughout. including rocker trims. rear lip and crack-prone chin spoiler.

Black leather seats are powered in front and heated in both front and rear. Upholstery looks free of tears or split seams but shows nicks and wear commensurate with mileage. Other leather-wrapped surfaces look clean though there is adhesive failure on both right-side door panels. The dash remains uncracked and free of distortion.

The fat-rimmed M-Tech II non-airbag wheel is a rare sight in North America but was fitted on some JDM M5s.  Instrumentation is clear and features an oil temp gauge built into the tach. Switchgear is intact with bright white lettering and includes different dual-zone automatic climate controls than those seen in US-market cars. The onboard computer appears functional with good backlighting.

A modern iPod-enabled Alpine stereo has replaced the original. The trunk has new lid supports and contains an aftermarket amplifier along with wiring for a subwoofer.

The well-detailed engine bay is home to a stock-looking 3. 6-liter S38. Regular oil changes have been performed and the radiator shroud was recently replaced. but other service has not been required in the seller's three years and 1500 miles with the car. A small. undiagnosed oil leak leaves a dime-sized patch on the garage floor after sitting for several weeks.

Power is transferred through a Getrag 280 5-speed manual transmission. The already non-original rear suspension was replaced with new 535i parts in 2014. Further suspension work included replacement of front sway bar end links and new Sachs struts were installed all around.  The stock rear muffler is rusty but other corrosion appears superficial and limited largely to steel fasteners.

Service records include over 50 pages from the two previous Canadian owners. while prior paperwork is in Japanese. The car has reportedly been stored in heated garages by all three of its Canadian owners during winters. The seller is less comfortable driving the car due to arthritis in his clutch foot. which is the reason for its sale.
