Restored 1953 Mercedes-Benz 170DS has 4 Cyl. Diesel Engine and 4-Speed Manual Transmission with Shift on the Column.

This was the first Model produced by Mercedes following WWII and was based on Pre-War designs and specifications. The only major changes were the use of steel rather than wood for the flooring and relocating the spare tire from exterior truck lid mounting to inside the trunk.

When purchased in '09 it had just undergone a complete 18 Month. Frame-On. nbsp;$60. 00 Professional Restoration to original Factory specifications. Prior to the extensive Restoration. nbsp;it was in good condition showing no rust or body damage. Motor and Transmission were also in good working order.  It had been well maintained by its previous owner(s).

Work performed included: Complete stripping of paint to bare metal and repainted in original High-Gloss Mercedes Black.  The upholstery was replaced including: front and rear seats. door panels. headliner and carpet. New windshield (due to scratches). re-chrome of bumpers. grill & trim.

Hydraulic Brakes: new hoses. brake shoes and wheel cylinders were also replaced at that time.

Engine was inspected and showed very little wear. These OM 636 Diesel engines have been known to exceed 1. 00. 00 Miles.

Engine compartment was cleaned and refurbished. In the years since I have owned this car it has not had any mechanical issues. break-downs or repairs. Even after sitting for many months at a time. it starts right up and drives well.

Has been driven mostly at WWII Airshows and occasionally used in WWII related TV & Movie productions. Minor modifications were added to make it more Period Correct and to fit the Filming/Script or Event requirements.   Changes include replacement of tires with off-road capable Knobby Firestone tires. nbsp; Black-Out covers for Headlights. original NSKK Vehicle Badge on radiator grill. adding left and right Military Pennant Mounts to Fenders and Front & Rear German Military License Plates.   These items are easily removable to return to original 1953 Mercedes Specs.

The original take-off street tires and front Fog Lights are in storage and are included.

The condition of the vehicle today shows a few minor imperfections from use and transportation to Movie Studios located in the NYC area (inside a fully enclosed trailer).   Has some flaking of chrome plating on front bumper and minor paint surface scratches received while loading & unloading. The wind-up Clock in the Dash is not working.

Additional pictures available upon request.

The Vehicle has no known mechanical issues.   Starts. Runs. Drives and Stops well.  Had recent oil change including Filter inspection and cleaning.

M-B Dealer Service Manual and Owner's manuals in German and English included. Speedometer/Odometer are in Kilometers.   Now at 22. 30.

Vehicle is currently Titled. Registered & Insured in PA and is available for inspection and test drive by appointment.

Buyer must arrange for vehicle pick-up.

Local Transportation (within 250 miles) can be arranged prior to auction end.

Dear Sir,

Congratulation for your car.
It looks very well restored an maintained.
I have a similar car, a Mercedes 170 DS in a far
lower condition adn I am bussy now to restore it.

If you do not mind, may I ask you 2 questions please:
1. what diesel filter do you use, any serial nr? etc
2. Do you have the diagram how to connect the sparking plugs, because as I can see they have to be in serial and I do not know how to connect them.

Many thanks

Nermin
