This auction is for a 1974 Porsche 914 with original Zambesi green. The odometer shows a little over 2. 00 miles. most likely 102. 00 miles and I have no documentation to prove the actual mileage. I have a clean title and I'm the legal owner. a private party car enthusiast. nbsp;not a dealer.

914's are so much fun. I bought this great car in November so I'd have a fun driving summer car. Now. as the summer begins to close. I'm going to sell it on. Really. if you want to have some car fun. buy and sell something fun every six months or so. I always buy classics and make them a little bit better when I sell them on.

914's are owned by people who like them - engineers and gearheads and the like. Never pretty. when the 914 came out. it won Le Mans against its 911 big brothers because it's a better car with it's mid-engine design and super durability. And because it's a better car. Porsche had to make it a 4 instead of a 6 (mostly) so the 911 could be touted as the upmarket offering! Still. the little 4's are a blast to drive and an autocross favorite. Dr. Ferry Porsche had an 8 cylinder because it went zip!

You can see a great Le Mans Photos by typing: 914 Le Mans 1970  into Google (I cannot post links on eBay) where the little white 914 beat them all (in class)!

DESCRIPTION OF THE CAR:

This 914 is a stock fuel injected 4-cylinder air-cooled 1. 8 liter engine. that runs. shifts. drives and stops extremely well. It starts right up when you turn the key. To the best of my knowledge and while driving this summer. everything works including the clock. This Porsche has the appearance group and center console with gauges. It also has the much desired chrome bumpers. It also has a more modern radio and a rear deck lid shocks/lifters that are the only changes as far as I know. The left lid shock could use a little TLC. but I make it work! (20 bucks worth of TLC and you get a new one. )

This Porsche has a very solid. rust free chassis. The battery box appears to have been replaced with a correct unit. There is some minor rust repair/welding to the front trunk seal channel. these are super common rust areas on 914's and these areas are now pristine. with no rust. and new paint.

Anti-rust treatment by Ziebart was applied when new. The process included drilling some small holes in the body in various places and spraying anti-corrosive compounds into the body cavities. the holes are then plugged with plastic plugs. In addition to that the front and rear trunk bottoms were also coated with anti-corrosive tar. The previous guy – a Porsche buy/fix/sell guy - spent a couple of days removing all of the tar in the trunks and repainting the bottoms of them. they are now nice and green and pristine. The good news is the Ziebart did a great job of preserving the body. see pics.

This Porsche has the original spare wheel. and a  nice original jack. The interior is fantastic – really  with the exception of the dash. which has some cracks – but I think it's just fine for an everyday driver.

It is my opinion that this 914 has most if not all of it's original factory applied paint. It's not perfect paint by any means. Spots of paint here and there have been added for touchup and there are some dents and dings. but it shows very well and looks amazing for a car that is over 40 years old.

Just before I acquired the care. it had new tires. master cylinder. a new carpet kit and a rebuilt pedal set. I've put on less than 1000 miles so all that stuff is still basically new.

This probably one of the best 914s out there if you have your heart set on a 914. Not because it's perfect. but because it will suit your goals. I figure there are three options with this car:

1)  AS IS: It's great fun and you get a lot of thumbs up and honks as you drive around. Years of joy for very little money. It's not perfect by any means. but good enough and fun. fun. fun!

2)  UPGRADE: New paint. new dash and Fuchs wheels would make it a real beauty. That's what I'd do if I kept it. But…I have a '72 BMW that needs my attention…

3)  ALL THE WAY: Change it up and make the world's fastest sleeper. I thought about it and can direct you to some resources. There is a good body of information on making a 350 HP six that is still a subtle road car. I'm not talking about the short block V8 misfits some outfits build. but a well-balanced agile little Ferrari killer.

I don't really need to sell it so I'll wait for the right price. I also don't use eBay a lot. As an experiment. I have decided not to reveal my reserve. Maybe I'll get a few more weekends driving it here and there.

This is my third 914. Here is some buyer recommendations. It's my list and you may disagree. but keep it to yourself!

1)   Rust free! It's just too expensive to cut a lot of metal just so you can keep the car from falling apart.

2)  Chrome bumpers. Chrome is the best look and will hold the best value.

3)  That triangle of vinyl hiding the roll bar and just behind the side windows. It should be black vinyl and not paint. Paint means the body may have been pretty bad at some point – watch for recurrent rust!

4)  Appearance group center consul. OK. not that important. but I like it.

5)  Low profile tires on new(er) rims. This means the car was driven hard (raced?) and may wear out quickly.

6)  Weber Carbs…looking for trouble including jet size. fuel pump pressure. poor idle etc. Don't do it!

7)  1. 7 liter: Just too small.

8)  Weird body parts like a slope nose or a rear wing. If you really must have wheel flairs. you also must have a six cylinder.

9)  Deleted round blinkers from front fenders. Lots of bodywork could mean a lot of previous damage.

10)  Banged up wheels – not a loved car.
