1971 Ford Mustang 351 Boss (R Code)

Most people do not know realize that the 1971 Ford Mustang 351 Boss is coveted by the most serious muscle car collectors.   This car was Ford's last attempt to produce a fully engineered muscle car after it decided to get out of factory sponsored racing.  

This car was built on a larger chassis then previous Ford Bosses that gave more engine bay room and a lot more interior room.   It is said that only 1. 06 were built in 1971 and it is the only year that this model was produced.   Boss 351 main claim to fame was its R Code V-8 330 hp at 5. 00 rpm. and 370-lbs. ft. of torque at 4. 00 rpm.   It was noted at the time that the small block could outrun most big blocks.   Connected to the 351 Cleveland V8 was a Hurst-shifted four-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok 9-inch rear end.   This all came with beefed-up suspension and power front disc brakes.   These cars were marked by their twin. functional hood ducts. honeycomb grille. lower body paint treatment. bodyside stripes and 351 decals.    It is interesting to note that the cars sold for $1. 00 more then the average Mustang.   Historic information indicates that these cars turned the quarter mile in 13. 8 seconds!!  The capital R in the middle of the serial number indicates that it is a true BOSS.

The car in this eBay listing is now in the hands of the widow of the original owner.   The original owner who passed away recently was a true automotive enthusiast and he purchased this BOSS brand new and fully restored it about four years ago.   HOW OFTEN DO YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN BUY A 1971 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 351 THAT COMES FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER!  NOT VERY OFTEN – WE WOULD SAY JUST ABOUT NEVER!!  The car in this ad is in fantastic condition – take a good look at the photos!!  Again. it is now in the hands of the original owner's widow (who by the way does not know how to drive the car).   We believe this car to have a very reasonable reserve. but the widow has asked us not to reveal the reserve.   This is a very rare opportunity to get one of the rarest and one of the last true muscle cars put out by Ford.   We just love the Grabber Yellow paint with the black trim and decals. the wheels and just the stance of the car!!  The air scoops with 351 RAM scoop and the rear wing really will stop traffic!  They really do not come any nicer then this car!!!
