The Austin Healey 3000 Mark III was launched in October 1963. and remained in production until the end of 1967 when production of Austin-Healy’s ceased. Classified as the BJ8. the new model was the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healy’s. with a walnut-veneer dash. wind-up windows. and a 150 hp engine. Improvements to the engine included a new camshaft and valve springs. and twin SU 2" HD8 carburetors. together with a new design of exhaust system. Servo-assisted brakes were now fitted as standard. In May 1964 the Phase II version of the Mark III was released. which had a modified rear chassis to allow rear ground clearance to be increased. and subsequently. in March 1965 the car also gained separate indicators.
The car you see here is said to be a 71. 00 original mile example of a last year Healey. This 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII has benefitted from an extensive cosmetic restoration in 2004-2005 at the hands of Ragtops and Roadsters. We have receipts for all of the work done as well as photos of the entire restoration showing the car was completely disassembled during the restoration. Mechanically the car was gone through in 2001-2002. also at Ragtops and Roadsters. Work included a new timing chain. woodruff key. shifter bushings. sway bar bushings. overdrive service and a rebuild of the steering box.
When purchased. we drove this car nearly 30 miles at 65mph on an 85 degree day. The overdrive worked perfectly and the temperature never got above 190 degrees. The car drives straight as an arrow and is comfortable. even at today’s highway speeds. This is by far one of the nicest driving Healey’s we’ve ever owned.
Finished in Colorado Red. the paint is in wonderful condition with no notable imperfections. All of the chrome and stainless appears to be original and in great condition with just a few minor scratches from age. All of the glass looks great as well as the new soft top.
The interior appears to be nearly all original with the exception of the carpet which has been replaced. The optional wood wheel shows no cracking and the seats are free of any splits or tears. The wheels are true chrome knock offs which look great.
The inline 6 cylinder runs great and starts with a turn of the key. This is one of the easiest starting English cars we’ve ever owned! The overdrive works as it should and gives you a comfortable cruising RPM at 65mph.
This is an extremely straight and solid car that is finished in the most desirable color combination. Throw in the chrome wire wheels and working overdrive. this car is everything you could want in a last year Austin Healey. Buy it today and drive it home. whether that’s 20 miles or 2. 00!
Photo GalleryAdditional InformationAbout UsWith the current influx of classic car "dealers" both local and national. we are hearing more and more horror stories from good people who have had less than satisfying experiences buying and selling cars in the collector market. As a reputable dealer with over 15 years in the business. we want to make every possible assurance that buying a Fast Lane car is the only way to invest in a vintage vehicle. Our strengths are many. but here are just a few: Our guys know cars. period. Classic cars require a level of knowledge that is not necessary in the used car market. Never buy a car from a guy who doesn't know what he has. We examine every car extensively before we purchase so we can weed out the problem cars before they get to the customer. We use the term salesman loosely. Too many dealers will talk you into a car you have no business buying. We realize that a salesman with no commission goal is a salesman who won't pressure you. and that creates a friendlier environment for everybody. A warranty is great until you read the fine print. We will not offer you the traditional lawyer-speak guarantee because classic cars are amazingly unpredictable and they will find the most inopportune time to act their age. What we will offer in all fairness is our assistance in helping you return your vehicle to its purchased condition. Information is the best tool a buyer can ever possess and we like to share. If you need closeup photos. undercarriage video. scanned copies of original titles or trim codes from the VIN tag we will get it to you and we will handle your request in a timely manner.
