History:
Introduced in September of 1989. the 4th generation Accord was the first Accord to enter the mid-size category and offer the new. more powerful 16-valve “F” series engine to the public. The sedan grew in it's wheelbase by almost 5 inches (now 107. 1 inches) and kept it's double wishbone suspension intact with some minor improvements. Styling of the series was more chiseled and angled which kept the low hood line but discarded the 80's flip-up headlights to a more standard. reflected headlight housings of the times. Introduction of the OBDO PGM-FI ecu system was made standard on all models in the US / Canadian markets and fuel injection was the norm. Interior refinement was scaled up for better laid-out controls. increased shoulder room for all occupants. higher headroom.

The Accord unfortunately grew into the a semi-plus size category for a typical Honda in the 90's. base DX weighing around roughly 2. 28lbs (1. 37kg) in weight. EX models @ 2923 lbs (1. 26kg). It also brought the Accord into the sophistication realm of how PGM-FI truly worked with many mechanics scratching their heads on the new ECU system. (Remember that satellite phones and the Sega Genesis were still on the table in '90). This wasn't the first time that PGM-FI was introduced as the previous generations of A20 engine offered it standard on SEi models. as well as the first Acura Legend. This across the board change for the new generation Accord revamped many dealerships to offer better in-house training and computer equipment for their Honda customers.

The true heart of the CB Accord for most was it's F22 engine which featured two variants. the F22A1 (DX. LX models) & F22A4 (EX /EX-R models). Both engines are practically the same minus differences with it's exhaust manifold on the A4 featuring a better flowing tubular design allowing more power. Both engine variants had PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection) standard. Stats are below for each engine:

Bore × Stroke: 85. 0 × 95. 0 mm

Displacement: 2156 cc

Valve configuration: SOHC. 16 valves. non-VTEC

Compression ratio: 8. 8:1

F22A1: 125 hp (93. 21 4 kW) @ 5200 rpm. (Accord DX. LX). The 1992–1996 Prelude S had a F22A1 but because of a different more aggressively tuned ECU (P12). the power output was 135  hp (100 kW).

F22A4: 130 hp (96. 94 kW) @ 5200 rpm. (Accord EX) The F22A4 is the same motor as the F22A1 minus exhaust header

Standard features of the LX model were kept the same as the previous generation including A/C. power windows. door locks and mirrors. The EX model added 5 more horsepower. a twin outlet muffler. 15-inch alloy wheels. sunroof. upgraded interior. rear stabilizer bar and 4 speaker stereo cassette player. ABS for models were available but optional at dealers. A newly designed rear engine mount for all automatic models was electronically computer controlled to diminish unwanted vibrations to the chassis.

Still to this day the 4th generation Accord is alive and kicking well with many people in the communities still driving their Accord as a daily for work. auto-crossing on weekends or as a show car. With the boom of the internet in the mid to late 90's. online forum communities such as Honda-tech. com or CB7tuner. com have helped fellow owners keep their Accord's running strong and share important DIY's for those new to the game. I personally still see local CB Accords running around my neighborhood with almost every reason to still be on the road. Almost all of my friends has either owned or rode in one at some point in their life. They truly were and still are for many the iconic Accord to own from the 90's.

Really & truly a joy to be being behind the wheel in this car. looks and feels retro and defo gets looks wherever it goes.  The old cliché of 'they don't make cars as they used to' defo applies to this CB7.

The bad bits (do take a deep breath first :)

It is a 24 year old car Vehicle has been lowered 40mm all around on apex springs – some may see this as a good thing. I don't hence inclusion on my bad list. Saying this it does get over speed bumps easily

The Anti-lock brakes (ALB) dash warning light does come on intermittently (again best to mention. it may take a while to come on and only does it only does it on occasions) – so buyer may not notice it when viewing/test driving the vehicle. This is a common Honda issue and will require the sensor to be reset - It is not an MOT failure

I prefer originality – & there are a few things which are not original with this one. namely alloys (from an Honda Integra (Type R I believe and are valuable in their own right) & do contain the Honda logo. also they are compliant with the 4 Wheel Steer functionality). lowered suspensions (yuk) uprated new Sony Xpod Bluetooth cd/MP3 player (instead of the old Honda cassette player). HiD headlights bulbs  (which are now 8000k HID lights)

Front passenger side door opening handle has a plastic surround which is cracked/broken from one corner -  door operates fine

The front passenger partially opening window issue has been fixed

Putting the vehicle into the Park gear takes a little more effort than I would like (more than the other gears. which click into place) – new buyer probably wouldn't notice but I think its best I mention upfront. (it does not get stuck as I have read on some forums & does move in and out of park properly. just requires a little more effort) - a test drive is recommended.

No spare wheel – (who needs a fifth wheel hey. : )

The front headlight water washer spray seems not be be working - the button when pressed is working but a loose connection etc. means that the water is not getting onto the lights - Still researching as to the cause)

The Manifold heat cover is missing – I am trying to source one and will include/install should I be able to locate

The D4 & Engine lights do not come on (Most likely the dash bulbs will  need replacing But I am not sure and am still researching on this one).

Electric aerial (radio/Bluetooth/cd etc. all work fine but the aerial does not open/retract as it should) – a universal one is around £20 from eBay – can include/install as part of the sale subject to the offer made.

Rear driver side door does not open from the inside (door spring needs re-attaching)

Crack in the dash plastic (near the cd player)

The leather steering wheel is faded/worn somewhat – no rips or tears & it still feels firm Driver seat does have a tear in it and ultimately will require repair - the front 2 seats could do with a refurb the rear ones are really nice however and are excellent for their age    The front two tyres will need replacing in a few months The alloys look great but ultimately could do with a refurb – no cracks or buckles – just scuffs etc.
There are 2 holes in the front bumper where the number plate was installed. the current number plate is the stick on variety and is positioned lower
A few stone chips and marks on the vehicle but nothing major
Car will need a professional valet and engine steam clean (pictures do no not do justice).

I have tried to be as honest as possible and list the things I am not happy with. as you can see most of the above work is cosmetic and once remedied would get this car to truly excellent condition.

Summary:

All in all a great car with many years of enjoyment & driving left in it. The rarity of this model must be acknowledged as there are only a handful left on the roads in the UK. With some being stored as an investment. What it needs is a little effort to bring this CB7 back to its former glory. It is truly in excellent condition for its age.

Please please no calls simply to discuss my rationale or to debate the asking price. I am happy to keep the vehicle until the insurance/tax finish (2017). saying this I am happy to answer any genuine questions. The car is located in Birmingham and can be viewed at a pre-arranged time.

Thanks for looking. do call if you are interested or have any further questions. genuine buyers only please - no tyre kickers or silly offer merchants.

For information my car is advertised elsewhere.

Thank you for reading.

£3250-00 ono

Thank you for viewing my ad - Some more pics included for those who have made it this far.

Rocker Cover painted - engine bay is really clean and tidy (a credit to its owner. I hear you say:) - but could do with a steam clean

Big boot - has the vehicle jack. spanners etc all included in the boot.  The carpets and lining are in tip top shape
(ultimately could do with a steam wash). (No spare wheel however)

Why or why did Honda stop making these controls - they look and feel awesome

Note the small crack on the dash plastic. the buttons all work  fine (apologies for the water / smear marks on the gearbox) time for a professional valet me thinks :)

It is truly a joy to drive and has a real retro feel. Go on imagine yourself behind the wheel :)
