1971 VW T2 ‘Early Bay' Dormobile Camper Van
For sale is my 1971 VW T2 ‘Early Bay' Dormobile Camper Van which I have owned since 2005.  During ownership we have thoroughly enjoyed many trips away at various VW events. festivals and coastal breaks.  The vehicle has been dry stored inside each winter and has proved to be very reliable having not let me down once over the 11 years of ownership.  
As mentioned the van is a Dormobile variant and internally is presented with original factory standard Dormobile interior which includes cabinets. wardrobe. sink. cooker. fridge. cool box. bed and table.   All items are in great condition and have not been modified.   The cooker and fridge were working when last tested in 2010. however I personally do not use them and choose to use an electric fridge and external gas cooker whilst out and about.  
Up front the front seats are finished in white and yellow vinyl and are clean and tidy all be it 1 small hole where I caught the material with a key…. It has an unmodified standard dashboard complete with clock and working back lights (note; clock works but is currently disconnected to prevent battery discharge during winter).   A CD Radio is provided however the buyer should note that there is an issue with the unit which prevents it being powered off correctly.  
The bed / rear bench seat is finished in blue jean fabric. and is in a fully working condition.  Also included in the sale is a front cab hammock which fits suspended over the front seats.   This proved to be a great addition when our children were younger.  I do not know the maximum working weight limit of the bed however my daughter who is 7 easily sleeps on this bed.   Up top in the pop top roof are 2 further additional beds. Personally I have never used them and the buyer should note that whilst the bed mechanism is in full working order with all external material covers present the bed hammock fabric itself is showing signs of age and would need to be replaced before the beds are used.  Also note in this area that the pop top roof spring has failed and as such the roof when open is supported via a support pole.  The rear floor is finished with black / white square vinyl and up front both rubber and carpet floor coverings are provided.   There is a 12V fluorescent fitting to provide some light internally and yellow curtains finish the interior providing a degree of privacy.
Externally I'm sure you are aware that as this is the very derisible T2 ‘Early Bay' model the vehicle is fitted with low front indicators. wrap around bumpers. rounded rear lights. half moon shaped rear air intakes and looks great presented in yellow and white. The van was resprayed in 2005 and being honest does need some further attention in this area with rust present on the doors. side sliding door. engine lid and rear quarter. I have had a quote recently from a local bodyshop which came back in at £900. The buyer should be aware and the price has been reduced to reflect this however once complete this will be a very desirable original van.   On the positive side I am including with the sale a full front door seal kit complete external front window and door handle finishing kits ready to be fitted if and when the buyer decides.  The van is also fitted with a roof rack providing a great place to transport any large tents or awnings and a side step into the side door.
Mechanically the vehicle is fitted with the reliable 1584cc VW engine which is extremely simple and easy to work on even for the inexperienced home vehicle mechanic. thus saving £££'s on future servicing and repairs. The vehicle is provided with 9 months MOT and this year as part of the MOT the vehicle was fitted with 4 new tyres and also a new master cylinder. I also this year fitted a Pertronix electronic ignition complete with flamethrower 1 coil (upgrading from the mechanical points and condenser). new spark plugs. distributor cap and leads. A great upgrade and as such the vehicle starts on the button and ticks over smooth. In addition to this as I do every year I have changed the oil and refilled using Morris oil. The odometer currently reads 37081 miles however I can not confirm if this is the original mileage (note; the mileage may change as the van is in use).   The heat exchangers are fully working although the control cabling is not currently connected. the vehicle is however provided with full new cabling and connection kits ready for the buyer to fit / connect should they decide.  The vehicle is fitted with disk brakes on the front providing a great advantage over drums.  On the down side the vehicle does have a slight oil leak but this is not something that has bothered me over the past 11 years and has not got any worse over time.  
So to summarise a great. reliable. tax exempt camper van which has not been modified. lowered or fitted with any 'boy racer' modifications. It does need some body work completing which is reflected in the price but is provided with door seals and finishing kits ready should the buyer decide to move forward with this work.  Mechanically sound it has roughly 9 months MOT and 4 new tyres.   Should the vehicle be sold for the asking price I will also include an insulated window (Silverscreen) kit to provide additional privacy and warmth on those chilly nights. an original Dormobile buddy seat providing a 5th seat for further seating. a retro gas cooker and period search light which plugs into a socket on the dash board. 5lts of oil. 5 oil seal kits ready for future services and a range of further additional spare parts which I have collected over the years (as per the photo).
